Funny thing. After using my truck for the past year carrying nothing but me and the family, we finally got to take our 8000 lb 5er out for a camping trip.

Hooked it up, left the house.
This was the first time I had towed with the 275 injectors installed.
Afer a few miles, I was thinking... hmmmm this is rather sluggish... .

Then after about 30 minutes, it's like the beast came to life. Started pulling like a banshee down the highway. Pulling the hills in overdrive, no sweat.

Pulled all the way there really strong. Unhooked the trailer at the other end, and went into the local township. The truck HAULS A$$ after that tow.

Coming home, it was strong right from the start up in the morning all the way home.

Dunno what it was, but something musta been gummed up from the lack of working the Cummins.

One happy camper after this trip, though!!!
Only Cummins Power for me!!!

Weird, isn't it? I had to take mine to the dealer Friday for a seat belt problem. "Cleaned up" the truck for the trip and was thinking she was kinda slow. Went over and picked up a trailer, got my truck "tow ready" and hit the road. She's back to her old self now. Friday I had sent an email to a fellow TDR member asking what he thought might be wrong with my truck. Now I have to tell him everything is fine. It's like the computer begins to memorize your driving and loads up memory with habits. I even noticed that my fuel average is back up to showing 21. 4 on the 'puter'. That means everything is working fine. It was down to 19. 6 for about a week.

Alan, yeah, and I forgot in my post to mention that after towing, the unloaded mileage improved.
I swear to god something gets "learned" or at least changes.

With the 275's there wasn't a hill on my trip that I couldn't hold the speed limit or better. That's the kind of towing machine that I like !!

that is exactly what is happening, the OBDII software learns "Habbits" and will start to tune itself around those. including shift points for fuel economy/performance or vise-versa.

the reason your truck ran different from the dealer is because they probably disconnected your battery while they had it. in the drag racing world that is a trick for being consistent. in the repair world, that is the way to shake out a problem. the computer has a "drive cycle" it runs through each time you start it up. and to truely clear a code you must flash it by disconnecting the negative cable for about 20 seconds, and then run it through a complete drive cycle and recheck for codes. and during that cycle, it will adapt for economy and emissions along with getting a role call from all sensory inputs.

shoooo, that was a mouthful #ad

to make a long story longer, if it starts feeling slugish, or you are headed to the track for some fun, disonnect the negative cable and then drive it, like you hate it, until your done.
