3rd Annual DHRA/TS Performance All Diesel Challenge

Wrenching Party / Get Together @ Huckstorf Diesel 3/26/05

I almost 100% certain that I'm going to sign up for this ASAP... I'm waiting to see if I can get some corporate funding from work before I commit to a fundraising goal. This is a great cause and has quickly grown into the largest fundraising event for childhood cancer.

Great Idea. I know when my son had ALL (one form of lukemia) I shaved my head for him when he lost all his hair. I did it as a show of support for him. When he first saw me he says why in the heck did you do that, you look funny. A few days later he tells me thanks that it really meant a lot to him. He was only four. I stayed that way until his hair grew back. It is simply incredible what they go through and even more amazing that they get through it without really getting cynical about people. The staring, pointing and stupid comments etc really dont do their psyche any good. Most people just dont get it. And I guess just dont understand what the kids (and adults) go through. Anything that can be done to help find a prevention, cure or a better treatment is a good cause in my book. I say go for it.

My mom went to the Belin School of Nursing in Green Bay, WI. I won't mention the years, because I'd have to find another family to spend the holidays with. For the past couple of years I've accumulated a number of hats that I don't wear. I send those hats up to the school and they hand them out to the kids who have lost their hair. We get letters from the nurses thanking us for the hats, and telling us how happy the kids are when the get one.

I'm trying to get one place to donate some hats that aren't big sellers, and have been on the shelves for a long time. Then they could get them out of their inventory. Otherwise, I might have to see if they'd lower the price for me, and I'll buy them outright.

Paul

my Mother and Aunt have been knitting hats for a couple years for cancer folks. . they donate boxes and boxes of them. . last time I was visiting Mom she had probably a couple hundred ready to ship out to a cancer center . . my Mother has been through the drug and radiation treatments 3 times each in 12 years now

At last count... I've raised $355 for the cause!

I'd like to take a moment to personally thank all of the supporters... the response has been really encouraging so far!

Matt,

Where do you send $$$$$ to?

We want you to beat out Meaghan as top fund raiser. :p

Kindy, pm with details of how to get the check to you.

Thanks,

Wayne

Matt,

I belong to the Chicagoland Toys for Tots as a product helper. I talked to my fearless leader today. Lil Tommy said at least 20 summer baseball caps will be available for you to distribute. Oo. Oo. Oo.

More on the hats during the week as we take inventory. :D

If I can't make the event, Where do I send them & a check, to you????

WAYNES WORLD

Sorry, dudes... I haven't been on the TDR much lately.

Here's the direct link to my team's webpage: http://www.stbaldricks.org/team_detail.asp?id=707

Right now, I'm the only member of the team. I can't seem to convince other people to go bald... :) I do hope that lots of people will come to the actual event to watch me and everyone else get shaved... it's going to be a lot of fun.

So far, almost everyone has contributed by following the links from the above webpage and doing it all online. A few folks are mailing checks directly to the cause by finding the address on the 'FAQ' page. The response has been really overwhelming... I really appreciate all of the support I have received thus far.

Paul - this all goes down on the 17th... St. Patrick's Day

Matt - going bald soon! :-laf

Matt,

Do you want the Toys for Tots hats sent to the hair party event or to the charity?

Just let me know where to send them ! Oo.

Thanks,

WAYNES WORLD

WaynesWorld: I appreciate your offer, but I'm not sure that this event would be prepared to accept that kind of gift. Maybe Paul could point you to where he made his charitable contributions.

Thanks,

Matt

I want to say "Thanks!" to the mystery TDR member who contributed to the cause! It won't be long before I get shaved... ! :D

WAYNES WORLD: Again, sorry for the snafu with the hats - but, I'm sure we'll get it straightened out.

Matt

Matt,

Paul & I , your local friendly neighborhood truckers, have a method that will be worked out. ;)

We also have a plan for a raid on Louisville Truck Show for more "donations".

we will get-er-done !!!

Best of luck minus the golden locks :p

Shall I bring a Toys for Tots winter hat for you? :)

WAYNES WORLD

Many thanks for the donation, Tim.

I've darn near exceeded my original goal by almost 300% - thanks to the kind folks at the TDR. Well done!
