Shell buys Pennzoil-Quaker State: Pennzoil-Quaker State Co. , the nation's largest motor oil maker and parent company of more than 2,000 Jiffy Lube oil change service stations across the country, is becoming part of Royal Dutch/Shell Group in a deal worth $1. 8 billion. The agreement was announced Monday night in Houston, where both Pennzoil-Quaker State and Shell's U. S. operations are based. The deal, approved Monday by Pennzoil-Quaker's board, is expected to close in the second half of this year. It still needs the approval of shareholders and regulators. (Yahoo), no work on what, if any, effect it will have to racing sponsorships such as the #1 Pennzoil Chevy or Quaker State assoc sponsorships on the Hendrick Motorsports cars [#'s 5,24,25,48]. I loved Pennzoil in my gassers, Hmmm, dump the Rotella for the new Pennzoil 15-40 long life?

Ground Zero

Hey Hummin, I work for the Pecten and as far as I know they will not be "Crossing Formula's" just yet. Shell did not buy them for the name or brand, but for the retail outlets. I'm sure they will reformulate in the future, but for now (next 6-10 months) all should remain the same. I don't work in formulation or marketing but this is what we have been hearing. And, they may not change the formula at all. QS and Penn. have very brand loyal followings, why screw that up.

Who knows whats instore, but believe me they were looking at the purchase more form a marketing stand point than wanting to "change" QS or Penn. Besides the Penn. building in Downtown Houston is just right across the street form One and Two Shell Plaza, they could have done it for the real estate purpose

Just my measily two centavos!!!!!

Shell also wanted Pennzoil's experience in synthetics. Pennzoil has developed synthetics for use in the space shuttle so they have quite a lead on Shell. THey are betting on the future of synthetics and that segments $$$$$ value. The Jiffy Lube outlets are mostly franchised and I am sure they will start handling Shell products within a year.

Happy trails

Bob

Like I said, I love Pennzoil in my gasser, 150,000 and engine was squeaky clean. Rotella always worked in my diesels now I see pennzoil makes a 15-40 too

Like you said, Shrimpy, the brand loyalty thing has me too

To everyone who reads this thread: I AM NOT TRYING TO START AN OIL WAR, JUST PASSING ON SOME INFO... ... ... LOLOo.

Living in PA like you, I have always leaned torwards Pennzoil, and Quakerstate. At one time they used to say "made with the finest PA crude" but I don't think that's the case anymore.

Shell

Just slightly off-topic, but why are Shell gas stations WAY HIGHER in price than the others just across the street? I see this state-wide! And yet, there are people stupid enough to pull up to their pumps! What gives?

Good Question

Good question BC. A couple of years ago, we recieved a e-mail form the then CEO encouraging us to be "Brand Loyal " when we purchase gas and what not. I understand that he recieved a flood of e-mails back saying basically that we (employees) would buy it if it were CHEAPER!!!!!!

Here in Houston Shell stations can be anywhere from a couple cents to well over . 15 cents HIGHER than other stations right across the street... ..... I don't even carry a Shell credit card

Whats really frieghtening is that 90+% of gasoline all comes from the same loading rack..... only difference is additives that are added before tanker is filled.

The Shell brand at one time commanded a higher price, much like Sunoco, or Union 76. But the days of the speciality refiner are long gone. I don't know why folks pay more but they do.

You guys from Pa. ever run Kendall Oil. For my money this is the BEST gasser oil avaliable. Mercury Marine recomends it for all of their boat engines, even the 1000 hp superboat engines. It's getting harder to find down here in any weight except straight weights. Works well in Harlys to!!!
