Changing Products

I cannot wait for Shell to release chrome pipe oil, hybrid vehicle oil, and heck, left handed oil while they're at it.

Just changed the oil and filter in the Wife's Sienna to Rotella and a Wix Filter. Drained the Royal Purple. Time will tell. The Sienna has 86000 miles currently.

Just checked the Wife's oil that was changed before the Minot ND trip to the new Rotella gas engine oil. She has about 4k of usage on the oil. Still honey colored and on the full mark with no side effects. Started effortlessly at 17 degrees at Ft. Morgan in Colorado during that cold front that swept down from Canada a few weeks ago. The Dodge has Royal Purple and has made two Minot round trips @ about 1650 each way times 4.

I still have not bought this oil. Had a reserve of Motorcraft that I had to use which is now gone as of last oil change 6ish weeks ago.
Now that my oldest (16) is driving to Kent State U a half day everyday mileage will accumulate quicker than it has in the last several years, so I should be onto this sooner than later.

Use the same Shell Rotella 6 or 7 synthetic in the Yamaha grizzly 550 and 06 Ram Cummins. Has special additives . One hauls the other anyway. If there's better for the price out there, I'll change .

Funny. He does all this testing but still believes in oil change intervals. Someone ought to let him know that oil analysis determines when oil should be replaced, might be a new concept for him.

This may be old news for some of you but I came across this at the parts house earlier. Available in 5w30 and 0w20, both full synthetic. I may start using this oil in the wifes Mercury.

I know this thread is about 10 months old now, but I actually snapped a picture of the three offerings at my local WalMart.

Walmart has their Mobil 1 priced at $19.99 for a 5 quart jug online right now. That is for both the regular and high mileage verities.

$4.30 a quart, that's a dang good price for a name brand full synthetic.
My 2013 Dodge Dart w/2.0L calls for 0W20, 5W20 if no 0W20 handy. Since I run Castrol EDGE 5W20 Synthetic in the Grand Cherokee Limited w/3.6L and the Challenger T/A w/5.7L, I thought I’d just run 5W20 in the Dart. Since I bought the Dart used w/99k miles on it, it probably makes little difference. I might have to double check the spec and maybe run some of that Rotella in the Dart the next time. Only thing is it holds 5 quarts, and I would not have any leftover “make up” oil if and when it gets low, short of some 5W20 Castrol. The Grand Cherokee hold 6, the Challenger T/A 7, so I always have some left over oil for make up since I buy it in five quart jugs. The individual quart jugs of Castrol are just toooooo expensive....
