ok i;v had my 93 for 9 month's now and this thing id ssoooo slow!!!i mean i get out run by 4 cyl car's like nothing whats this thing's prob??? also what is the advantiges to having the timing set?????

Could be a number of things-

1) plugged air filter

2) Plugged muffler

3) plugged injectors

4) pump is way out of whack

5) plugged fuel filter

6) turbo problem

etc, etc

As you can see, there are lots of things that will screw up performance. Need to be a little more descriptive on the problem:( There are lots of people here that will help, lets get your truck running like it should be.

What have you done to it recently? was this always a problem or has it just developed? What is the boost at full throttle and what are the EGT's?

I agree with pacool - if you could be a little more descriptive we could be more helpful. I don't see much in the way of preformance mods in your signature - what's the rear diff ratio - auto or manual. Mine was a super-pig when I first bought but it does quite well now - see my sig for my mods.

ok here is what she dont do. everything is stock 3 inch straight pipe dumping out in front of rear tire brandy new fleetguard air filter. brandy new fuel filter boost unloaded at wot is 18 loaded she's 20psi... pump is stock egt's in the last 2 day's are running about 100deg higher nothing changed no diff on the power side of thing's egt's at wot are 1000 unloaded pre turbo flat ground @65 mph anywhere from 600-900 when i get on it she wind's up slowley has no pick up to get up hill's gotta keep it wot to maintaine speed. give me something to do would hate to have to buy an 93-94 idi ford! thank you Jason

Sounds like you are running the 18cm2 stock turbo. Your turbo will spool up quicker if you go with a 16, 14, or 12cm2. The smaller the turbo the quicker the spool-up. The down side will be higher egt's. You could turn up the pump but without larger injectors your truck won't preform at its peak potential. I am running a 14cm2 Banks turbo and I like the combination I've got.

Hey Powerwagon you could give the best advise on this problem - so feel free to jump in anytime. :D

My friends 92 will stay right with my truck (see sig) and all he has done is injectors and a 12cm housing and pump tweak, if he could get as much RPM as me I think he would beat me. Time to slide my plate forward I think. That 1st gen really gets it done. He has 5sp and 3. 55 also.

Cummins Kid. Try checking the lift pump output. Friend next door has a 92 and the thing was a dog. He wound up changing the lift pump. Motor is fine now.

One thing he did do was to take his truck to Cummins and had them pressure test the iintake loop through the intercooler and was found to be fine.

When I had my 92 over there the other day to have them replace cracked gear housing, they pressure tested the loop and found a couple of clamps leaking slightly and I always check them on a regular basis. Never can tell, intercooler may be leaking where you can not see it.

If at wits end, let Cummins take a look at it.

FWIW, 18 - 20 psi doesn't sound 'stock'. Usually a stock pump/injector/turbo housing is good for about 15psi. +-

Your doing pretty good at 20psi if you think it's still stock.

Injectors first, pump tune/timing next, 14cm housing next. That will give you a heck of basis for working up some nice power without going solarflare if its done right. The 16cm housing is a nice price/performance compromise if $$ are a major factor, otherwise grab the 14cm. I did not see any major EGT jumps when i went from the 18. 5cm to the 16cm. My younger brother has the Banks 14cm and he runs almost identical temps as me so unless your going GONZO on the power you should be ok.

The A518 is generally a good trans. if it's maintained. The VB flows oil better than the newer trans. according to Bill K. Depending on mileage/wear/service you may need to get the newer version of the A518 and upgrade the VB and TC to transfer more power.

Well thats a start.

Good luck and don't get discouraged, we'll all hang in with ya till it does what you want.

Regards, Bob

Boost looks pretty good for a stock truck. Don't think there is a problem with a plugged aftercooler due to the boost numbers. I saw the biggest increase in power with the new injectors. Do those first then have the pump tweaked. Tweaking the pump also means checking the timing pin and pump timing. My timing pin was off about 2. 5 degrees, and Wentland set the pump timing at 1. 7

I still have the stock turbo housing but that is the next thing to get changed.

After the injectors and timing you should have a big improvment in the power. You will also probably have a bit more smoke, especially on cold mornings before the truck warms up. :D

These trucks are a kick in the a** to drive when you get the power turned up!

hey guy's ok the 518 is new about 15,000 miles the injection pump i think is new not bluke color... ... . and on the money side of thing's im only 20 as of right now money is the thing that governs me as of now... i work for the state i get squat,,,as for the suggestions keep em comming ... ... . thank's men would have sold this a long time ago without your help!!!!! thank you Jason

Cummins Kid. . got this e-mail for you so I'll pass it on

would you get a message to cumminskid. i think his low power is because
