This morning as we were hitching up and preparing to leave West Fork, AR I noticed another puddle of red fluid under the front of our new truck. My first thought was: Oh no... here we go again!

But this leak was in a different location from the previous one in a transmission cooler line...

A quick look under the truck revealed the leak was coming from the power steering fluid return line above the gearbox...

That particular line has a pinch-clamp over a rubber hose on a steel line. Power steering fluid was leaking from under the rubber hose, as if the pinch-clamp simply wasn't tight enough.

To quickly fix the problem and stay on schedule, I installed a worm-gear type hose clamp directly above the pinch-clamp. This seems to have worked and we towed 325 miles today with no more leakage.

At this point I'm ready to name our new truck "Slobber" because it's always drooling and dripping!

I'll see everyone at May Madness... that's if we make it!

Back on the rant of cheap hoses: A friend of mine bought a Silverado last night and brought it to my work to show me......power steering hoses AND trans cooler lines "weeping". Dealer told him it was normal and they'd seal up after driving!

Don't accept it and take it back! Call Chrysler and explain your disappointment.

John has it donned on you that maybe this new truck knows that you miss the old 2001 that 'marked' the driveway and/or the garage all time, and it just trying to help you make the transition!!! And that it plans to stop this supporting behavior after a couple months! Chris

That's a reasonable theory Chris, except for one little problem...

My 2001 didn't leak (i.e.: mark its territory). I had it well trained. :)

Not sure what has happened, Maybe these are china-chincey hoses or Ram has hired some of the "old hands" that used to work for Harley Davidson, or maybe they are just getting their hoses from Harley. This problem will be solved, I'm sure, but "not good PR" for RAM.

Yes, I'd make an appointment and it might be the steel line that goes into the rubber hose, rather than the hose itself--unless the spring clamp just wasn't tight enough. I'd get it in asap so they have time to order a part if necessary.

John, are we going to have to bring a box of Depends to May Madness for your new truck?
Lots of old rags at least!

Slobber has set a new record... no leaks after crossing 4 states!

We're keeping our fingers crossed as we enter the home stretch toward Pahrump and May Madness.
