Shield, Front Hood Protection

What exactly is a "Shield, Front Hood Protection"? Is it one of those bugshields?

See that "extra piece" across the top of the grille? That's the hood protector. It matches the grille underneath it, either chrome for ST and SLT, or body color for Laramie and Sport Group trucks.

Yes, in effect, it's a bugshield because it changes the airflow over the hood and windshield which theoretically should keep bugs and small rocks away from the windshield.
