Did my first long trip yesterday pulling 5th wheel trailer, about 15,000 lbs. Truck did great, acted like it wasn't even back there. My question is those of you with 6 sp manuals, what rpm are you using for your shift up? Had some trouble shifting in 1st and 2nd, once I got to 3rd she was smooth as butter. I know, from articles in TDR, not to lug under 1600 and should keep the rpms in the 1600 to 2200 range.

When pulling, I usually shift in the 2400 - 2900 rpm range. I've noticed, at least with my g56, that keeping your foot in the throttle just a little bit helps smooth shifting alot... especially the 1 - 2 gear shift.

AWay,

I pull a 2006 Wildcat 29RLBS that weighs 12K loaded. I noticed quite a bit of difference in my shift point from the Trail Harbor 27RKLS that I previously owened. That one was only 9. 7K loaded. I have an NV5600 transmission coupled to a 4. 10 rear end.

My shift point for the "Cat" from 1st to 2nd is 2,200 RPM, and for 2nd to 3rd in the same range. I'm not going anywhere fast, but who beside the guy behind me cares. You can tell from listening to the engine, when to shift. It just reaches that point where there is no more benefit to increasing the revs. I also don't let the revs fall below 1,600 during the up shifting from 1st through 6th.

2,200 rpm does it for me in the basement gears.

My Warrior is around 12500 loaded and with the nv5600 2500 seems to be a good shift point. Just be smooth and steady on the 1-2 shift and it'll feel good.
