Another Stupid Question

Towing Break in?

After starting my truck, seat belting and placing foot on the brake I am starting to run into an issue where the shifter does not want to come out of park. This happens randomly. I usually wind up fiddling with it until I hear the lil solenoid "Click" and then it comes out of "Park".

Anyone else have this issue?

Reluctant to take to dealer but looks like I will have to.....

Mine does the same thing. Sometimes i think i don't push the brake soon enough, before i pull on the shifter.

Shifter Interlock Issue

So this is not a recall or TSB (Tech service Bulletin) according to the dealer.
Weird problem and it is random at best. I have gotten into the habit of expecting it now. . Sad. I will put in for service after Holidays..... Guess I am a gluten for punishment. #@$%!

Stick, did you find out anything more???

Really... No one else has had an issue with their Parking interlock???????

:D:D

There are several threads on park brake interlock problems. Some members have successfully adjusted it and some have just removed it. If you perform a "Search" using "park brake interlock", you should be able to find them.

I didn't see this thread earlier. It is a common problem caused by a bad Park Interlock Switch that fails to retract the interlock pin.

Locate the switch on the steering column under the dash, remove the attachment screws, and zip tie it to the column. This allows the truck to think it works and won't set codes but willl allow you to pull the shifter out of Park position without pressing the brake pedal.

The same part failed in my '06 when it had 36,000 miles, just out of warranty. A dealer transmission tech friend zip tied it to the column and it remained there for another 194,000 miles until sold.

I liked the truck much better without the Park interlock so had my former Dodge mechanic friend do the same with my '08 when I brought it home from the dealer.

If others drive your truck you might want to decide if being able to shift out of Park without placing a foot on the service brake would present a hazard.

If this helps my '06 did it several times when it was 2 years old, once it was so bad I thought I was going have to take the solenoid off right there in the mall parking lot. It refused to come out of park. Finally restarted the truck and it let go.

After that second summer it has never done it since, maybe the slot has worn enough so that it can't hang up.

Still working fine at 118,000 miles.

Mike. :)

Thanks Fellas..... I just hate to think the answer on the $58000 truck is a 4 cent ziptie... ... cheez... . I will do it though.

Thanks again Forum.

This is your Government protecting you from yourself at it's best, and the Trial Lawyers also, you can't blame Chrysler.

I know this isn't your problem, and only recommend it in general, for auto trany owners. When I drive all of my auto's, I always go to neutral then engage the Parking brake, then shift to Park. My driveway has a slight pitch, and the shifter gets hung up coming out of Park, if I don't do this. I had several issues with this when I first moved in, and now its a habit.
