I was hoping some of you tech savvy people out there could tell me if I am putting undue strain on my transmission internals by resting my hand on the shifter knob of my NV4500 while i'm driving.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance.

I hope not

I hope the transmission is tougher than that. :p

I've been using it as a hand rest for about 4 years now and no problems here. :)

It does put a little more wear and tear on the shift forks, just not sure how much. Can't be all bad :). Don't you guys have a center console?

Clark

I usually have a lot of junk on my front seat so my center console is usually up. May have to clean house.

Texas Diesel the girlfriend idea is intriguing, but boy would my wife be p. o. 'd.

I do it as well with no apparent problems, unless the girl sitting next to me is the one shifting then my hand is elsewere:D. It does put a little more stress on the shift forks but nothing to be concerned about.

It is pretty hard on the shifter forks and pads on them. Best not to keep your foot on the clutch longer than needed, nor hand on the shifter until needed. Your wallet will thank you later.

After dumping $1200 in my old F-150's transmission, I quit resting my hand on the shifter. Does alot more damage than most people would think.

I guess I'll quit then

No more of that then. :( Damn, it was awfuly handy to adjust the radio while my hand rested on the shifter. I'll have to find that little remote that came with my radio now. ;)
