Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) shifter lever removel

just wondered whats the easiest way to remove the shift stick on a 97 5 speed thanks.

The upper part of the shift lever will pull up off the shift lever stub, the stub is held in by a 1/4 turn coller. If you get a big set of snap ring pliers and put them in the "corners" of the coller and push down and turn counter clockwise it should pop right up.

Pull the boots up until you can see down into the transmission. There is a retaining ring that you must push down about 1/4" and turn ccw about 1/8 of a turn. It will release and the shifter will come out i your hand. It is easiest to do it with 2 people and with 2 screwdrivers, one pushing down on each side and rotating the thing.
