I have a 92 that I have worked on for a freind that about every 2 months needs the TPS read adjusted Any one had this problem?

I just went through this recently - my overdrive would become erratic every week or two, and I adjusted it a couple times only to have it act up again.

At the suggestion of someone on the forum, I cleaned and used dilectic grease on the TPS, speed sensor, and transmission temperature sensor plugs. So far it's been fine... . :knocking on wood: ;) Might be worth a shot on yours, too.

There is another possible cause for this too... .

On the underside of the TPS there is a bolt w/hex head... this fits into the hex "socket" on the throttle shaft.

If that bolt, which normally has a pretty snug fit, begins to loosen in it's own threaded socket, the bolt can move. Even a tiny bit will cause it to go out of adjustment.

Maybe that is something to check... very carefully since you don't want to be cause of it loosening off though...

bob.

I had been having occasional erratic downshifts out of overdrive before I reworked my throttleshaft, when I did the hex recess where the TPS bolt rides in was so worn that the hex bolt could rotate halfway into the flat, which made it hard to remove, after putting it back togethor with new parts I have not had any erratic overdrive shifting, something else for people with high mileage to check... .
