Ever seen this?

"DIESELPOWER" Magazine run by a bunch of idiots

Any of you guys know of or can recommend a company that ships items such as transmisions, transfercases ect. ? Say from California to Iowa?

Yellow, Roadway, etc. The class of service you want is LTL (less than truckload) service. Be prepared to put it on a pallet or build a crate, and take it to/from a depot. Check with your work and if they do that sort of thing you might be able to get their discount.

And then when it reaches you, you need a way to unload it or, make arrangements for a lift gate for the heavy items, or rent a fork lift. There will probably be an extra charge for the them to put it to the ground [lift gate]. Other wise Its your responsiblity, to get it to the ground. they just get it to you.

ForwardAir

They are terminal to terminal so you have to see if they have terminals close enough to the departure & arrival to make it convenient for both parties. I shipped a Toyota trans/tcase this way. Just strapped it down to a pallet. I've heard that some terminals don't like auto parts especially if they might have fluids in them. If this is the case, crate it up so they can't see it. ;)

It is generally cheaper if you pick up the freight at the freight company dock. They usually charge more to deliver to homes than to businesses

Normally ForwardAir requires items to be completely crated rather than just strapped to a pallet. I've had good luck with Old Dominion Freight Lines. I just deliver the item directly to the dock, they strap it to a pallet and send it out. Terminal to terminal prices are decent. Getting things shipped door to door gets a little more pricey though.
