Shock Absorbers for Dexter Axles

If you have installed the Dexter shock absorber axle kit, did you have to weld?

Had to drill holes at some awkward angles though.

I know that this sounds stupid... Did the holes have to go into the frame? I ask because my TT has a square tube frame, and I hate drilling into it at stress areas.
