I want the biggest, toughest, longest lasting shock for my 3500 4x4. I like a solid ride. What shock would you guys recommend and what do they cost. Thanks for the help.

I would recommend Bilstein. A lot of BOMBers like the Rancho 9000. Bilstein is OEM equipment for Mercedes-Benz, and have raced on everything throughout the world. Quality? There are none better. Are there other shocks available for your application? Yes.

I haven't done it yet, but after reading all the various previous posts about shocks, I am going Bilstein on my truck. I also remember hearing they are about $60 a piece...

Hey, Tom

You won't be disappointed with the Bilsteins.

Front BE5-2549

Rear BE5-2550

I paid $50 each from an internet parts place no longer in business. I don't know any current sources for prices other than Autozone, but they want $65 ea. That's still less than Edelbrock, and in the area of Rancho 9000. If I had it to do over, I'd still pay whatever it took.

Well since you asked for the stiffest and toughest, NOT the best ride, I would go with the RS9000 and set them all for level 5.

I want to try KYB Mono-Max myself. I've used KYB on small cars , mommy van, and the Ram. I was very happy with the small car until trading it in (for the Ram). Still have the Mommy van and couldn't be happier with the KYB strut & shock combo.

The (2WD) Ram is another story. Loaded, the KYB gas-a-just I have installed are very good. Empty they are OK but react to slow. I would love to try the Mono-Max, but that will have to wait for the next budget cycle.

I don't like Monroe products.

Bilstein is good.

I've ordered from shock warehouse. My favorite is

shox.com They might be able to set you up with something more extreme than Bilstein ...

In my last 2 trucks I've tried Rancho 9000, Monroe SensiTrack (3 sets), Edelbrock IAS and Bilstine.

Hard to beat the Bilstein or Rancho 9000. I am running the Bilstein over the Rancho because I like the gas filled shock ride a little better, but the Ranchos ride nice also. The Bilstines really control the very front heavy Dodge/Cummins well, especially over the big bumps that will lift you out of the seat or bottom the front suspension on the very cheesy stock shocks. I put 100,000 miles on a set of Rancho 9000s on my 4x4 Toyota and they never wore out. I inflate rear air bags when the cabover camper is installed for added spring to reduce side to side sway, the Bilsteins do a great job handling the extra camper mass and air spring rate imo.

My vote is for the Bilstines...
