Well I think it's about time for new shocks and was wondering what other shocks you guys are running besides the Rancho 9000's, not that they are not any good but just feel that they are more than I need in regards to the adjustability as I do not think I need it as I do not haul alot, just on occasion and were is the best place you have found to get the shocks you do have along with the good and bad of each type of shock.

By the way I had posted a question a few weeks back about changing the transfer case seal and finally got it done now that the rains finally stopped for awhile and had no real problems but did find that the front yoke nut flange was not torgued to spec. also it is a little hard getting the seal in to the depth that is recomended in the manual and I did get it in a little farther but as of yet it is holding fine.

Thanks for the help,

Paul

Flatlander,

I use Monroe Sensitrac shocks. They work really well and are warranteed lifetime. Compared to the way the truck handled with stock shocks it's just amazing now. No more "lopeing" around turns if there is a little bump. I go around turns that used to scare me at faster speeds. No more "bowing" to the folks in front of me when I have to make a hard stop. No fooling around with adjustments, just install and forget.

If you install them yourself the front shocks can be a problem. Unless the old shocks are completely shot they will push up on the shock towers when you try to take them off. It's tricky enuff trying to get the towers untangled from all the hoses, pipes, wires and whatever without the old shock "helping". So take the upper nut off and push the old shock down and wire it that way before taking the shock tower off.

Hi there, I have bilstein shocks on my 95 truck. After 170k on the stock shocks it is amazing the difference. I really like the new shocks. I bought them at Auto Zone.

I highly recommend Bilsteins if you don't get RS9000's (Rancho has sucky customer service btw).

Right now, Rickston Truck has the best price on Bilsteins... $62. 50 each as I recall.

Have had nothing but trouble out of Rancho shocks.

The only shocks that I've found that will hold up to my abuse are the Heckethorn's. IMHO

I have a 2500 4x4 and plan on adding a camper, but not leaving it on all the time.

I was leaning towards Rancho 9000's and Firestone airbags to help the ride when I do and don't have the camper.

Any other suggestions? I keep hearing such bad things about Rancho that I'm having second thoughts.

Thanks,
Tackett

As with any product, there are always good and bad experiences. Personally, I would go the Rancho route. I have been running the 9000 series on several different vehicles, and they are very flexible for different needs. I recommend them for the suspensions I design and build, and they work every time.

I just turned in a set of Monroe Plus Sensetracs. They had 30+ thousand on them. They stood by their warranty and I replaced them with a set of Edelbrock IAS shocks. $77 each at Advance Auto Parts. I've read reports of them being too firm but I think they're alittle too soft. Got rid of most of the bounce in the rear axle but a perfectly spaced set of 1/4" thick paint stripes in a crosswalk will set off a short bounce in the rear axle at 40-45mph. Other than that... they're great. I would buy them again. They look good too. Red with black boots. The Monroes rode great but they didn't control the axle bounce and oscillation too well in my ever so humble opinion. They were worth their $26 each.

All parts were present and install normal for a Dodge with backward bolts. I set them up for towing # 3 on front and 5 on rear, towes wonderfully and when not towing rides firm / no axle bounce on rough roads, tires stay on the pavement and exelent off road handling, I'm not going to change the settings.

I have the Skyjacker Ntro shocks that came with my leveling kit. Needless to say I do at times over use my truck and have had no problems. Cost wise very resonable. www.skyjacker.com
