I needed a catchy title so that I would get you attention. My truck has developed a bounce in the rearend. I had the tires rebalanced and rotated, it helped a little but the bounce is still there. What is the signs of blown(bad) shocks? We just came back from a trip to the coast pulling our 25' 5th wheel, and thats when I noticed it the most. The ride was a little rough before we went but not as bad as when we got back and I un hooked from the trailer. Slow speeds(below 25) it seems smooth, but above that and any type of un even road, it starts a bouncing act. I thought maybe it was a tire had seperated but when the tires were rotated, it did not follow the tire.
If it is the shocks, what brand would be the best for towing(hitch weight <1000lbs) Need some information and advise...

Thanks
Rick

Someone else from CA has a thread on this problem. I think some of the Mexicanos in L. A. got a hold of those Rams and put hydraulics in the rearends. #ad

Are you sure your trailer doesn't have too much weight in the rear?It could start acting like a teeter-totter and cause the problem you describe. Maybe you need hydraulics for the trailer #ad

Hi there"R", You didn't say how many miles are on your clock,or how much you tow your rig. Howeveer from what you say,I'd suggest you pull one of your rear shocks(it's an easy thing to do)and either check it yourself or ask someone else to see what they think. If it's shot you will be able to push the shock in and out with relative ease. Remember you have several thou lbs. of truck bouncing it up and down, If you can do it with your arms, just think how easy it would be for the truck. If you decide they are gone check the front ones too. Also the loading of your trailer is a very valid option in your search for the culprit. Hope this helps.

Rick,

I put Monroe Sensitracs on mine about a year ago. MUCH better than stock shocks! No more lopeing around a turn or funny bouncing.

The truck has 145,000 on it, and the prior owner used it alot to haul heavy stuff. Just looking at the bed you can tell that it has been used. Our 5th wheel is between 6500-7000 lbs, and the hitch weight is about 750 lbs.
Oh yes the Mexicanos couldn't have worked on my truck. . there is no place for the little doggie in the back window!!!! #ad

Rick, just a thought but by chance did you make any emergency stops or get on the brakes real hard?? There is a slim chance that maybe you could have warped your brake drums a little. probably not the cause but something to think about. Regards Pete
