I am gonna get some shocks tomorrow.

How does everyone feel about Monroe Gas Magnums. The installer will guarantee them for life (parts only). Labor to install is $25. 00 per shock.

Whats everyones' take on this??

With what you're saving in price you'll likely pay in warranty installs, unless you do it yourself. I tried to save money the first time with Heckethorns. They lasted about a year. The "lifetime warranty" didn't cover the excessive strain the heavy Cummins puts on them.

I put on Bilsteins (true lifetime warrant) and have never regretted it. Great ride and well worth the price.

Installing them isn't that hard, unless you don't have the space, tools, or time to do it. I did my first set in two hours, the second in a little over an hour.

They ride very hard off road. They also transmit more road fell (bumps) to your butt. I had them on my 96 for 4 years and were still good when I took them off. I am running Gabrial VSR shock I got (what can I say) from JC Whitney. They ride real well on my 99 which never sees off road. My 96 is used to pull 14,000lb camper so no mo offroading for it. The Monroe magnum steering damper has lasted twice as long as the stock one and is still going. :D

It sounds like you are willing to pay $100. 00 each time you change shocks. How many times will you change them before you go to another brand?

I would put Bilstiens on mine again. I've run more than 60k miles since I put mine on.

I have them on mine and like them. I did it myself and its pretty easy. I dont go off road much but on street bumps it seems not to harsh and rebound control is decent.

Stay away from monroes, they are crap!, on one trip to baha, mostly paved and some dirt road. Out of four shocks, one broke in half, one froze up and trashed the mount, one came loose. I ended taking them off to save my truck for the rest of trip... .

i got a line on bilsteins takeoffs and have never had one fail on me... . after many baha trips, one or two have lost gas pressure, and thats in over 10 years on a scout... good-luck with your decision...

I had truck that was a 4x4 3/4 ton that had Monroe Magnums on for 220,000 miles. I replaced them from time to time under warranty but many miles off road in rough desert terrain sometimes with a cabover camper and sometimes not I never broke 1 shock. I didnt like replaceing broken springs and other stuff so drove at a rate that didnt break stuff. If you are racing off road perhaps some other brand would last longer but for general usage they hold up fine.

I should've given mine away. Somebody could've exchanged them and used them for a year or 2. I pitched them when I got the Bilsteins. I only had them on the front, but they really didn't last long. Running oversize tires probably takes it's toll with a greater mass and larger diameter to dampen. The Gas Magnums just weren't up to the task.

I run a 3500 with standard tires, and less than 1% offroad. 95% highway driving.

Does anyone that drives a 3500 have any input.

My Dad has a 3500 that had Monroes on it for about 35K miles... they puked all there oil. He is like you ... 1% offroad, 99 % highway. He replaced them with Bilsteins and he said it was like there was a new front end on the truck.

Follow this Bilstein thread to the ORW site. Read this testimonies and click on the site, it's down a few postings. Mention TDR when you order. I had gotten mine three years ago from Autozone but I did get Bilsteins for my wife's Exp from ORW.

Well, I guess I'll have to go against the grain here. I put Monroes on my first gen, the ones I took off were Bilsteins. The Bilsteins beat me to death on the rough freeways around here. The Monroes were much smoother riding, didn't have the hard "jarring" the Bilsteins had. Maybe for off roading they are better, but my 2 wheel drive was better with the others.

The Bilsteins seem to be in short supply. You will have to try a few places or wait probably.

The place I got mine is eshocks.com in Detroit. They took my order and gave me a call when they came in, (to make sure I still wanted them) then shipped them out right away.
