Does anyone plow/haul/tow alot and have different than stock shocks? Mine are pretty trashed and need some advise on some real good shocks. The truck is loaded 50% of the time. It also has a add-a-leaf goin on it soon. What seems to work the best? I was thinkin maybe monroe or bilstine(sp). BTW this is for the 05' if it makes any difference.

I normally run with 1500 pounds in the back plus trailer tows a couple of times a week, no plowing we don't get snow, in my opinion Bilsteins are the way to go.

Had Bilsteins on my 98 and thought they were very good. I run empty most of the time and they improved the ride quality over stock by quite a bit.

I had Rancho 9000's on a my 95 and thought they were OK too. Adjustable for loaded or unloaded was a nice feature.

All in all, I'll do the Bilsteins again when the time comes.

Steve

Bilsteins ! I tow on and off road with them, and run empty as well.

All around a huge improvement over stock, no fading.

I've not tried others, but went with the Bilsteins based on the overwhelming recommendation on our TDR forum.

If your loaded that much the rancho's might suit you better. Bilsteins are a "better" shock, but IMHO are not suited for HEAVY loads. The Rancho 9000 handles the loads better.

If it was my everydayer and occasional towing machine, I'd go with Bilsteins though. Just a suggestion.

Agreed. I was using a truck camper on weekends and thus had to change the Rancho setting whenever I loaded or unloaded the truck. Unless you have the in cab controller, which I did not, it is a huge pain to change the settings all the time.

If I was towing or loaded every day, Rancho's would be a better deal. Whereas I am unloaded 99% of the time now, I think Bilsteins are a better bet for me.

Sounds like the tried and trued 5100 series.

I have talked to a few guys about the 5150 and the general thought is they are junk. The reservoirs just can't take the abuse and begin dying a quick death.

AHa Here they are. Not like the 5100's but not the 5200's.

The 5125 Series offers Bilstein technology for custom applications. 5125 Series shocks feature Bilstein's superior single tube high gas pressure design for the up most in consistent fade-free performance and long life. Bilstein's patented Deflective self-adjusting valving delivers improved damping control and a smooth ride on all road surfaces at any speed.

  • Self-Adjusting Deflecting Disc Valving

  • High-Flow Piston Reduces Harshness

  • Independent Rebound & Compression Tuning

  • Larger Working Piston Area for Exact Damping

  • Superior Control for Large Diameter Tires

  • Available by travel lengths for custom applications

:-laf Now that's funny! I abuse mine on the rocks on my land cruiser and they take a beating. By no means are they "junk". Maybe stick to giving advice about what you've actually used, not what you "heard"
