I am planning on replacing my shocks and every manufacture claims to have the best ones and the best price. I do not do a lot of off road, but I do pull a fifth wheel 3k-4k a year. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Don

There are a couple of threads here and on other forums that say KYB shocks are hands down better than anything built.

I just bought a set of KYB shocks for my 05 from Rockauto.com and with the TDR discount is was under 200 for the mid grade shocks shipped for all 4. Got them laying here but with the holidays havn't had a chance to get them on yet.

Look into the Rancho 9000 series. They are adjustable, ten settings. You can crank them stiff for towing and loosen them up when empty. Lifetime guarantee when I got mine way back when, do not know if that is still true.

I replaced my Rancho 9000's with the newer model Rancho 9000XL - beefier than the earlier ones, and they work really well. I tow a 12,000 lb boat trailer, and really like the adjustability. They also ride smoother when I'm not heavily loaded.

I got sucked into the BIG BRAND NAME game with Rancho many years ago and still have them on my 02, my experience is that they are OK but after having 5000 ranchos on my last 5 pickups from sears with lifetime warranty and free replacement was the best way to do it as I have never had a set last any longer than 35k miles. I have researched on many other forums and find that the Bilsteins have a good rep on only a few places this place being one of the few, I have not found 1 bad thing about the KYB shocks, most say they just do not wear out. Plus they are a lot cheaper and also have lifetime warranty.

Having used Rancho for many years... . I put Fox's on when the Kore went on. Leaky leaky after 60K. I just installed the 9000XL's, and must say that I am pleased. Their warranty has always been outstanding.

I've also heard the Bilstein's are good.

Thanks for the feed back, I will check out the KYB and rancho. I was also looking at skyjack, but they never came up and I hadn't heard of them prior to seeing them at a dealer close to where we are spending the winter.
