I'm looking for some input from you guys regarding shocks for the front of my 1993 4X2. What have you used, how well did they work, prices etc. I'm leaning toward Ranchos but need to get input from those who have used whatever brand. I am more interested in preformance than price.

I'll be the odd man out here. I had Bilsteins on my 2 wheel drive and ended up taking them off. The free ways around here are rough from the gravel trucks. The shocks were real harsh riding. I put on a set of Monroe Gas Matics and the truck rode much smoother. Can't say how they would do off road, the Bilsteins are better there I'm sure.

I have Rancho 9000's. I've had good luck as I increase/decrease stiffness :p as required. They have a good factory backing also.

I put Rancho's 9000x on my truck last weekend. Big difference from the stock shocks on the truck. I am still getting used to finding a setting that I like. So far I have been running 4 in the front and 5 on the rear shocks. I also put on the Skyjacker 1 inch lift leaf springs on the front. So between the new leaf springs and the new shocks it now rides great. :)

Bob - When I checked a few months ago, the RS9000s weren't available for the front of a 2WD, at least according to Rancho's website. The RS9000s are available for the rear. I was going to put them on so I could stiffen them up when I have the camper on, but figured the air bags would be sufficient.

I ended up going with the Gas Ryder LTs all around - they're a heavier duty shock compared to the OEM but don't give a harsh ride. They're also only $24 from Auto Zone. :D

I run the front and rear each on 3 when empty.

When loaded (3000 lb in bed and 800 lb tongue weight- 4 horse trailer with weight distribution) I run 4 in front and 5 in rear. Had good luck, not much sea-saw action and truck sits level.

Hope it helps... ... Rich

I bought Monroe Gas Magnums for the front and I've been happy with the ride.

One strange thing happened: the computer at the parts store gave me the wrong shocks (too short. ) Yes, it specified "diesel. "

I had to call the Monroe 800# for the correct P/N.

Then, when I took the broken shock off (that's why I replaced them) it was the same as the "wrong" ones! The non-broken shock on the other side was the correct length (and different brand. )

Maybe more than one computer has the wrong listing?? Be careful if you buy Monroes.
