I don't know if they changed the colors of the spacer or not. The guy at BD just asked me what color my spacer was, and I assumed they were making them a different color.

The holes in the spacer should be drilled to approx. 1/4 inch, just enough for the allen head bolts to go through. You will use the original bushings with the original isolator.

Be sure to use and oil resistant RTV on both sides of the aluminium spacer, and to the bottom of the shifter .

The Wolf,

I had some Mopar brand RTV left over that came with my Fast Coolers, It worked great, but I bet it is expensive to buy.

In the past I have used Permatex RTV and never had a problem.

On the short shifter I think the trick is to not be to skimpy putting it on. RTV is cheap just don't put so much on that it drips down into the trans.

I had to go in there 3 times due to oil splashing out.

1st time, on the install, I put the sealant where the picture showed.

It leaked, so I figured I had the wrong RTV sealant. Got some different stuff and applied liberally. Still leaked.

3rd time, I actually looked at the mating surfaces before I applied the RTV. and it's nothing like the picture. I put a sane amount of RTV where the parts actually mate up and no leaks.

I would use the instructions as a general guide, but don't get too hung up on them.

Originally the aluminum spacer went on top of the rubber isolator with the new inserts, but due to some isolated leak issues there was a change. The new setup is to put the spacer in between the isolator and transmission housing and re use your old inserts. This gives you a better seal as it keeps the rubber isolator next to the plastic shift tower. If you had a kit shipped with the long inserts you can still put the aluminum spacer under the isolator and use your old inserts it works fine and won't leak. If you it installed with the spacer on top of the rubber isolator and don't have any leaks that works too.

Hope this clears things up

Thank you Blair!!!

For the first time it all makes sense now.

My only thought now is why were the directions I received wrong! It would have saved me a new isolator, some grief and time.

This little problem will make me pause and think twice before buying a BD product in the future.

If it's man-made you will have and error or problem or... ... ... dare I say it... ... ... ..... the need for a TSB.

I would still buy a BD product. Dodge, Ford, GM. They ALL make mistakes with their products.

We still buy them don't we?

Just my $. 02

BD... Keep up the good work. We're all in this together.

Got my new spacer yesterday from BD. It's blue also, but the holes are drilled smaller, just for the bolts to go through.

Even if you have the old style kit, the spacer should go on first.

RTV-spacer-RTV-isolator(rubber side up)-RTV-shift tower.

and use your old bushings.

I don't know what they were thinking the first time they put this kit together, it seems simple to me that you would just add a spacer at the bottom and not upset the way things were?

like that smaller shift pattern though.
