I am considering the BD short shift kit ($289) and found that Allstate Gear sells one for less than half the price ($125) plus the one from Allstate Gear includes the shift tower and the BD does not.
Has anyone installed the Allstate Gear short shift kit? How well did it work?
Below is the link for the Allstate Gear unit-

That looks like a stock shifter on top of a spacer? Just replaced mine with a stock one. The 5600 is quite short throws compared to 4500 or g56 not seeing much benefit.

I tried a "short throw" shift lever on our G56 truck and hated it. It was on the truck for 2 days.

I am considering the short shifter also. I did some research with the part number NV5600ST and read some reviews. Three out of five reviews said that the shifter snapped off, although it took one of them 15,000 miles to do so. So, maybe BD's shifter is a better bargain?

I also read some of the older TDR posts regarding the short shifter on a NV5600 and most were very positive, so I am still considering getting one.

@BigPapa, for me, I would like the 20% less travel distance in all directions from where my hand operates the shifter. That is all I am looking for. I am very easy on the transmission and I always make an effort to match engine rpm to road speeds during a shift. I would not operate the transmission any differently with a short throw shifter than I do now with a stock shifter.

I had the short shifter on my 02 3500 4x4 6spd and loved it. Just a comment, short shift doesn't mean speed shift. I had 198K miles when I got rid of that truck with original clutch and brakes... the truck had upgraded turbo, TST performance computer, DDII injectors, and BD exhaust brake.

BTW, got a South Bend clutch, NIB cheap. bought it thinking with all the performance upgrades I did, my OEM clutch wouldn't last... It did!

Cheers, Ron

Definitely no speed shifting. As I said, I will not operate it any differently than my current setup. Glad to hear that you really liked yours. I changed my clutch out at 297,000 miles. I replaced my front brakes and rotors during a routine inspection at 215,000 miles. They could have easily gone another 50,000 miles. These trucks are great trucks.

That’s what I was wondering. I’ve had customers ask about them looking for quicker shifts. I’ve advised against it. One tried it anyway and ended up with a messed up transmission. These heavy trannys aren’t made for quick shifting.

I understand the shorter travel. When I converted to the 5-speed, the one I bought was the early bottle neck shifter. My hand could touch the dash shifting into 3rd. We replaced one in a customers truck and the core had the later square top. Standard let me swap tops before we sent it back. Night and day difference.

I liked my short shifter for less travel and more space. Bern long ago. but seems it used touch my CB before the short throw
