went for a short drive today, and heard a pop noise coming under the truck, and when i got out i could smell the burnst wire smell. i havent been under it yet, but it sounds like the pop came from the lift pump. its been rainy out lately so i think the water is crossing terminals. anyone had this problem. the pump is only a few months old and was installed by a shop.

went for another drive. this time no rain no pop no smell, but there is a constant tapping niose. static is building up on the mirror and arcing across. i touched the mirror and got zapped.

the alternator is in semi desperate need of a rebuild, and is producing about 14. 5-15volts, dont know if that has something to do with it, but i have a rebuild kit and will take care of it tomorrow.

any ideas welcome because i have no ideas.

If your model has the fuel heater by the pump, a common fault is for the two wires leading to the heater to short across and burn out. Smoke and smell ensues. Many just remove this heater and do without it. The heater is a disc incorporated with the pre-filter bowl by the lift pump. That would not explain all the symptoms, unless I'm mistaken.

Nick.
