So,I was standing at the kitchen counter getting a bowl of ice cream and notice a brite light just outside the kitchen window. I pull the curtain back and notice the brite light is coming from the front of my truck. I run outside and yank the extension cord from the block heater cord and then run inside the garage and it did pop the breaker. I grabbed the flashlight and step stool (because the friggen truck is too darn tall) and started inspecting the block heater cord and found NO chaffing or bare spots. Inspected the cord end and it burnt off 2 (1 hot and the center ground) terminals. It looks as though there was water dripping off the truck and onto the cord. I have had several diesels and plugged them all in when cold but have never had this happen. Has anyone else or is Murphy's Law just kicking me all day and this was the icing on the cake? :{ Off to the dodge store to get another friggen cord!

you could always get the recessed male plug pictured below on my truck. Then you don't have to worry about feeling around for the plug anymore. It also makes a nice connection rather than having the plug dangling in the rain. It mounts permanently on a factory screw.

Geno's sells it.....

Sorry this is off topic, but I have to say...

Triton, that is one great looking truck! I looked over your Readers Rig and didn't see mention of this, and if you don't mind telling, who makes that grille?? That is awesome! Whats it made of? Thanks!

I stopped by the dealer this morning and showed them and the service advisor knows I am Pi$$ed at something else and he offered to cover it under warranty!! I am going to buy that plug TRITON!! Thanks.

Dude, sounds like Murphy got you, I have always tucked mine back out of the weather just to prevent something like happened to you... . Geno's is about 1/2 of what I paid at the dealer for my cord. Question is, why did DC not include this in a 41K truck, my 92 came with one and I lived further south. .

the new trucks come with the heater element in the block but no cord unless you order it with a cord. If you order it with a cord it is a $10. 00 option and if you have to go buy it, it is a $50 cord!! I have never had a problem in the 20years of dealing with diesels but MURPHY got me and had me down all day yesterday! It can only get better right? LOL!

I just got one of these for Christmas and need to install it. But my block heater cord is not very long. I need to find out where it is anchored and see if I can get a little more length.

I want to order one but when I install the buckstop bumpers I don't know where I would put the thing. I should order one anyway.

If you installed the cord in the factory locations without cutting any... you should have plenty. I just cut the plug off the end of mind, connected to the recessed plug and still have about a foot extra laying in the bumper.

I did not install the cord. It was in my truck from the factory. There is not much length to it. It comes out now between the hood and bumper. I am sure it is just attached somewhere that I can't see. I will look this weekend.

It sounds like Murphy's law to me also. I have done the same as you, left it in the rain and no problems. Good thing you decided to eat your ice cream at the window. Could of been really bad. I do have the plug from Geno's now and love it.

I believe in credit where credit is due.

That truck of yours is beautiful .

Mac

It's not my truck I just quoted something he said and the picture came too.

The beautiful truck is owned by Triton.

I just want to be sure the correct person gets the credit.

I only wish my truck was that shiny.
