Does anyone have a strong opinion about what makes the most sense: buy a 2006 Mega Cab now or wait for the 2007?

I would appeciate any comments. Thanks.

If all you want is a 2500 or 3500 mega cab and can live with the short box ... then get the 2006! The 2007 will have all the EPA stuff if they all come out with the 6. 7L.

I am sure the 2007's will have HUGE price increases ... more than if you just spent money to upgrade a 2006 truck's engine and transmission (if you go with an automatic).

I just bought an 06 instead of waiting b/c I wanted the existing engine that has a good track reccord. I was close to waiting on the new chassis cab. It has some things that I like, fuel capacity for one. But I'm sticking with the engine with less emission crap and I also think that the price for the 07 will be higher.

If they offer a 4500 with a bigger cab than the current quad with a full 8' bed and the new engine proves itself, I'll consider trading.

I personally wouldn't want more moving parts in the new VGT turbo, nor the headache of all the fancy ECM add-on programms, along with the EGR and Particulate trap set/up. I would get an '06 while you can, but that's just me. Plus I'm not a fan of the smaller badges on the door now.

100% Dead On Target... ... .....

I did a post asking the same thing,After a little thought I came up with this,

Rather have current eng w less epa crap and can get exhaust brake w auto,Figured if they come out with a 4500 mega in 07,08 I could wait to see how they did and order 2010 with new body style if I liked it.

0% for 60,got to love that and now no payments till oct.

and Family Friend pricing from scott(Thanks again)and You only Live once(I think)

Ive got to agree with rjohnson916 there is alot of changes with the 07 engine and with those changes comes new expense. Also as was said grab that 0% for sixty months thats like giving them away!!

Not until I can get a real cab with a long box and a dually capable of towing over 15Klbs... That'd be cool.

Good point about the simplicity of the 5. 9 - simple design that has stood the test of time (and performance!). Hope they don't screw that up...

I didn't want to buy a new truck yet, but I'm pretty confident that I'll be getting an '06 longbed sometime this summer...

No need to worry about all the new emissions junk...

Thanks for the feedback!

I think ya'll confirmed my fears about the new engines. I will start working on a deal for a 2500 Mega Cab. Thanks for your replys.

I thought only the 07 Cab&Chassis 3500's will have the 6. 7L -

I heard the regular trucks will have the 5. 9L in 2007.

I will post if I hear any updates from the grapevine

I went ahead and ordered a 2006 2500 4x4 Laramie Mega Cab today with everything on it except the video player. You guys convinced me to get 'er done. Thanks!

Dodge has never launched a major emission change one day sooner than the law goes into effect. IE 98. 5 2004. 5 ECT. I bet you a steak dinner they will have the 5. 9 with the 48RE and G56 up until mid year. At that time they will launch their new product, probably the same 6. 7 that was shown on the c/c.

The last few years the Auto industry has lied on their auto show stats and then delivered much better HP or GVWR at the official launch. This keeps the competition from matching or beating their numbers. Ford did this on the last F150. I think this is what was done on the 6. 7 launch, but I have no proof of this deception. Dodge WILL be competitive on the cost of the diesel option and the HP/Torque offered on the 6. 7.

Does anybody know if the new duramax is tier three compliant?

I bet around July you see the 6. 7's coming out in the regular trucks. I don't have any proof, just the fact the 24v came out in July, there was another change around 2004. 5 I think. Plus I guess it depends on how many 5. 9's are left in stock

The 24 valve and the 04. 5 with the cat/600 were both launched in Jan. of thier respective model year.

buy the 06, the new cummins 6. 7 is going to be a big big worthless POS... I can't wait to hear the lower mpg people get with it b/c of the bigger engine :)

I'll guess the number will be close to the 325 hp/750 lb ft that's listed on the Cummins site. I can't see how 20 horses can make 140 lb ft of difference. I wonder what the Aisin transmission will be rated for? Does it have an spin-on filter? I'm startin' to think I'm gonna like these trucks but I could do without some of the extra emissions crap. But, Cummins already has a pretty good jump on the others so maybe they got it sorted out already.

When are the 6. 7's supposed to start shipping anyway?
