Ok, i've got 33k on my truck now and I was wondering if I should change my fluid or not. I don't tow anything, but I do have the Smarty Jr. and have run it on performance setting for the last 10-12k or so. What do you guys think?? At some point I do want to get the stock fluid out of there and put some Amsoil in. Thanks in advance for replies.

if by chance its a automatic its needs to be serviced. If a manual shift its up to you but not imperative. From your post and sig. don't know what unit you have or am I missing something?

DPKetchum, it's an automatic. I guess i'll go ahead and service it and put the Amsoil in.

I was just looking in my owner's manual to find out the fluid capacity for the 48re and it's not listed. Can you guys tell me how much it holds so I know how much I need to order?

The "TOTAL" fill is 17 Qts. "Initial" fill is 4 Qts. (Initial fill is only the fluid in the pan) If you go on the Amsoil website, where the ATF is shown, there is a "Link" that will explain how to drain the entire system, if that's what you want to do.

Changed the atf fluid in my 06 with 31k this weekend.

Fuid smelled good on the stick but when the pan was down and 1/2 full it stunk.

Im so glad I didnt wait. Also magnet had tbl. spoon of metal.

The truck is stock, hardly ever tows and I babysit the trans gauge constantly to keep temps in check.

I needed 7qts to bring it back up.
