Why is it okay to rev a diesel vs. gas?

best clutch for a PSD

a friend of mine has a 2002 powerstroke and wants to race me. his truck is stock with the exception of an air filter. i was wondering if i have enough power to beat him or is he going to win? he is always talking about how he always beats up on dodges. about how much power do i have? i have a 95 2500 reg cab 4x4 with pdr370's,181 dv's,#0 plate, timing at 16*,and 3k gsk all running through a dtt trans. with all this will i win or get beat?

Run him ... I got money that says you'll win. But what if you don't? Who gives a cr@p? If you lost to him, it doesn't make him a better person than you ... if you win, it doesn't make you a better person than him. Run him, whoop him, and shut him up.

Also, if he beats you, it doesn't mean his truck is better. Nobody said that acceleration was the key determining factor on whether a diesel truck is any good.

Sounds like fun, I say do it. Just do it somewhere that nobody's in danger. My $0. 02 worth ... let me know if you need change back. Oh yeah, and report back to us whether you win or lose.

PLEASE go shut him up! Then report back to us! You WILL win! Oo.

Early one morning in a small town here in NE Arizona, I was filling my '91 Dodge with diesel when one of the first Ford Powerstrokes I had seen, pulled up to the pump, next to me. An older gentleman stepped out and informed me that his new Ford could "suck the headlights out of my Dodge". Rather than argue with him I told him he was probably right. He then told me he "was a diesel mechanic and new all about these things". Interestingly, though, he then told me that "when his Powerstroke was worn-out and rolled-over, dead in the ditch, that your Cummins engine will only be about half used up". I think he was right! If you dont want to race him just do what I do, Tell him youll load your trucks down to max GVCW then pull them up some good steep hills, then once you get to the mountains leave them over night in some good sub zero temps and see how that PS will start, then weigh them so they are dead even and hook a chain up back to back and see who can outpull one another. Best two outa three wins the others pink slip. That always works for me it just shuts them up pretty fast. And also Im udefeated!

How would anyone on here be able to tell you if you will win or not while racing your friend???? You listed several options you have installed on your truck, but that reaaly means nothing. Knowone knows the condition of your truck, if the parts are installed right or even if they work well with one another.

Then there is your "freinds" truck. Where are his stats? Automatic or stick? There is no way anyone here can say how well you will or will not do, way to many varables on both trucks and then there is the drivers, what do they know? And how hard will they push it to win?

Ofcoarse the best way to find out is to race him. But how do you go about it, at the drag strip? That would also be the only place that would assure both trucks left at the same time, and ran the same distance. Many I here talk about how the "Raced" a ford and beat him, but truth be known, they didn't race anyone. maybe snook up on someone and they blow by, but that is far from a race.

You ahve a delima, and it sounds like bragging rights are at stake. If he beats you, then you will here about it every day of your life, but if you win it's his wound you get to rub the salt in. You seem worried, and rightly so. it's much easier to talk the talk, then make the walk. I personally think he will dust you, Fords maybe alot of things, but they are fast off the line. Anything less then the 1/8 mile will be advantagous to the Ford, I'm assuming he has a auto like you. That 5-speed auto is bad, it shifts very well and seems to work well with the engine, much better then ours in stock trim. I know the Fords have had a rought time of it lately, and I do not like the way they sound, many sound like they are missing. But the ones I have driven performed better then the Dodge cummins version, atleast in the few miles with me behind the wheel. Good luck, I am sure we will here if you win, might not if you don't.

well the race is over. i smoked him bad both times :) . yknot i have drag racing under my belt. i have a 1970 cuda that i drag race all the time. i did race him at a track sorta. we raced at an old airport that his dad works at. i even let him say go. he is looking for revenge though. he said give him 3-4 months and we will do it again but then again in 3-4 months i will have done more things to my truck also. i dont know how much power im running but it was enough though. does anybody have any clue as to how much power i have? i would really like to know. thanks richard :D

In 2002 all you could get was the 7. 3 and no torqueshift. And saying ford has the advantage in the short half, NO WAY! if anything they are longer legged than the cummins is, the 6 is quicker. It aint hard to beat a stock 7. 3 if you have somewhat of an idea on how to drive a truck.
