For the most part the stuff Mopar sells for our engines is made by Fleetguard, but that's probably not the case with the new 4" filter. I only say that because Fleetguard does not offer a 4" filter, and the Mopar 4" is second to none for the OEM box, or any aftermarket filter when the truck is below 500 rwhp.

So should I replace the air box too that the guy before me drilled holes in the bottom? I can't imagine it helping all that much if at all and my truck totally stock has more power than I need.

How many holes?

Can you easily convert it to a home depot CAI?

I think the holes hurt in summer/towing applications.

I have run Afe filters on both trucks. They see more dirt, sand and Mexico off road than most. I have never seem any dust get through to the clean side . I have not ever had a sensor damaged by oil. Comparing a K&N to an Afe pro guard 7 is not an accurate comparison

On the other hand I pulled a customer out into the shop today to show him the dust settled on his intake tube with his almost new K&N

i used a k&n filter on two dodge diesels my brother had one on a toyota pickup and all three had dust in the intake track all three trucks are very well mantained. stock filters seem to be the best intake tube is always spotless.

Caterpillar has started installing some reuseable filters on some engine applications. Cotton Gauze construction, in oil type and dry type as well... not sure if Cat is making them or sourcing them thru an outside vendor... Where I have seen them most is on genset applications below 500hp... .

Before I retired Caterpillar's supplier on most air filters was Donaldson Filters corp. manufactured to Caterpillar specifications. Cat and Donaldson also had a joint venture corporation that manufactured filters near the Peoria area for consumption by Caterpillar.

Are the gensets from Caterpillar or Solar Power?

Having visited both K&N and AFE facilities I have seen the filters that are used in many big rig fleets. They are being used safely by many companies and individuals. Of course Cummins will not endorse them. Why would any company endorse a product they are in competition with. AFE approached Cummins to do their own testing of the AFE filters on AFE's Dime of coarse they refused-afraid of the results and the end of this debate.
My own oil testing results have always come back good with low silica results.

Jim W, thank you for posting that video!! Due to this video, I performed a closer look at the filters on our work trucks and found that on our 2003 E450 with the 7. 3 Powerstroke, the filters were clean, the filter minder was showing no restriction, but that there was a 2"X6" piece of housing MISSING from the back side that you can't see without pulling the housing apart and investigating!! After further inspection, there was significant dust getting sucked in, since the missing piece was between the turbo and filter.
I ordered a new housing, and cleaned everything I could find and checked the turbo blades with a mirror. Luckily, no visible damage.
I wouldn't have caught this without seeing the video and investigating further.

Thanks again! You may have saved me a 7. 3 rebuild!
