i have a 2004 auto that has never been to the dealer other than an oil change. reliabilty is a major concern for me,but i would like a little extra for that power stroke or rice burner at the red light. should i leave it stock or add a smarty. i have gauges intake and exhaust so i am ready for the smarty just a little bit scared. i value your inputs because you guys have done this. let me know if i should mess with a great reliable truck. thanks for all your help

I love my Smarty.

I have it set at 90 HP, and it's been that way for 8 months, about 3 months after I got the truck.

Only thing is, you get used to the 90 hp added after awhile, and now I have to get my transmission upgraded before I can turn the Smarty up! 90 HP is the general opinion of the max tolerance of a stock automatic.

Another good thing about the Smarty is that it can grow with the upgrading of your truck-you upgrade your trans, and you turn it up more (if you like)

JMHO

I have driven a total of about 50,000 miles on 2 trucks with Smarty Power. I love it and have no problems directly related to Smarty. I had transmission problems in the '05 which was an auto. If your transmission is auto it is the weakest part if the drive train. My '07 is 6 speed and it works perfectly at 90hp and below. I would highly recommend Smarty.

Having driven one extensively on an 03 and an 05, I would say a resounding "HE!! YES" ... especially with the potential that it offers down the line to grow with you as your power needs expand...

i've had my smarty for 7-8 months now. . i like it plenty. . sitting on #3 all the time. tried #5, but way too much smoke and timing rattle below 1500rpm. . #3 rattles below 1500 too if you really bog it off the line. .

anyone know if there is a software set that will give the #5 power level with the smoke of #3? [smoke on #3 is very controllable, #5 gonna get me pulled over for smoking]

Ive had my Smarty turned up on #9 for the past 6 or 7 months that Ive had it on my stock transmission, and I dont exactly baby it. Im not scared to kick it in the pants from a light in 4hi if I want. No problems whatsoever. I even tried going from the standard mild TM to moderate TM #9 for a couple days, but transmission didnt like it. I drive every day, in all kinds of weather on 9. The worst part about it is keeping tires on the dang thing...

Smarty and smoke.

I like mine and the difference in driveability is night and day. Smoke continues to be my issue though. With 2000# on my back it gets old babying the throttle. Marco and Stefano are supposed to be coming up with another update.

If you valvue reliability first, then maybe take a second look. Seems while the Smarty is awesome, most will agree the "power" makes you want more. Once you push past certain limits, you break things, ie transmission. I think the mantra is, you pay to play...
