Hi all I am going to take dually in for wheel stud recall. I know you guys say to update the firmware for the Aisan trans. I shifts perfectly and I know there is no going back l so what makes the update better?
Less shaking the truck in a 1-2 shift esp. if you are in the throttle hard. Engines updates are a long list including improving a "missing feeling" when cold. Surprised in the hot climate I have this 'engine missing feeling' caused me trouble. There are several updates to the updates for the engine and transmission. (Same TSB just different newer software load part numbers.)
The downside is the transmission may take some time (1000 miles they say) to re-lean. IMO due to production variances this can be nothing to the tire screaming missed downshift give up and tag the engine governor locked in neutral mine likes to do ... say when you catch a light changing green when rolling. At times, if I work hard at it, I can shaft a manual worse than the Aisin I got but only if I try hard like dumping the clutch and missing the gears. Because others do not experience this I suggest it's production variances making the difference. You haven't noticed any sifting issues so likely you won't. Just be warned of the re-learn that could make things weird for some miles.
The improvement after the first flash was day and night better.
Ok got my truck back from dealer. No stretched wheel studs. They left me nothing for my owners manual (new torque specs). Did alignment per thuren, drives nice. Decided not to do aisin update as I don't want to be teaching it as I pull my 14k fiver for the next month. Maybe next time. Thanks for everyone's input.
You have to ask because some techs do it and some not, it isn't mandatory from the factory. But everytime the truck goes in it will be connected to wiTech, you can't work on these trucks anymore without the computer plugged into.
If it is the update alone sure they will, it's labour's time.
If can be done within an other job with the wiTech already connected it can be free of charge, depending on the shop and the will of the tech of course.
So when my truck goes in for 4 recalls it should be a free bee right ? Fingers crossed . If not will it be worth 189.00 to have it done or not . Basically a hour of labor
