Should the cat stay or go?

Hey everyone,

I have had my 06' CTD for weeks now and just had a 24" magnaflow muffler put on yesterday. Well, it is nice but to soft. I like the tone but i just want more of it!

My options are to replace it with a 20 or 14" model or get rid of the Cat. The shop is leaning towards getting rid of the cat. The tech said that the cat is what is eating up all of my sound.

What do you guys think?

Dump the cat, and get a cat test pipe PM me I can get you a good price on one.

Removing the cat will open it up, but there is always the chance of diesel smog coming to your town soon. Save the cat. That's a pretty ballsy shop to recommend removing the cat, as it's a $10,000 federal fine, I think. Tampering with emissions. I'm not preaching, just mentioning what a muffler shop in town told me.

I decided to get the 14" magnaflow muffler and see how that sounds. I can just see a dealer having a peek under the truck and making a stink about it.

piece of 1" pipe ... small sledge ... 13 year old daughters skinny arm ...



viola ... cat is empty ... but is still "LEGAL" to any who peer under the truck ...

Welcome to the site. My kat is gone, I still have the kat in the back yard in case I need it. As of now Nevada only test trucks under 10000 pounds. My 6 wheel truck says 12000 pounds. I did not remove mine for sound, it fell off for lower EGT temps.
