Just had a funny story for those who care to read it...

My dad bought a 2004 Ford F-350 about the same time i bought my 04 ctd.

I chipped mine as soon as i got it with a banks six gun and speed loader, i have also incorporated other performance upgrades in the last couple years.

Just last year he decided to buy a diablosport predator programmer for his powerstroke. The first time he put his foot into it he blew compression into the cooling system and blew a bunch of anti-freeze out.

He had the predator re-programed which lessened the problem, but on a hard pull he would still lose coolant. The problem continued to get worse until he began losing coolant without the predator installed.

At this point he took the truck to the dealer and they booked it in to replace the head gasket on Nov. 27 2006.

He asked that they install ARP head studs (something they had never heard of) and a better Head gasket set that they had to order.

Dec. 22 2006 They called to inform him that he wouldn't have his truck for christmas. They said that they replaced the gasket with arp studs and put everything back together. When they started it up and test drove it they couldn't get it to run properly. Diagnosis... They found it had bent push rods.

Their explanation was that while the engine was apart the lifters pumped up with oil, and when it was put back together all the lifters were expanded not leaving enough room for the valves to shut. Piston comes up, bang... bent push rods and possibly valves...

So they rented him a new chev crew cab pickup, because they couldn't give him anything off the lot.

Today is Jan 13 2007. Still no truck and he's still driving a rental at $65. 00 a day on fords tab.

I donno about you but i think i would be getting a little aggravated.

I'll keep you posted on events to come...

ANd ford is still warranting all this work on your dads truck?? Can't they tell that a programmer was used?

They'll probably wait till he goes in to pick it up and present him with a $10k bill!

Not to be sour in you’re thread, but I don’t feel any sympathy. If he put a programmer on his truck he should not be entitled to his warranty. After all the truck would be running just fine right not had he not messed with it. This is why extended warranties are so expensive, and why thousands of people that don’t mod their trucks gets shafted so hard when they have a legitimate claim. I have had an Edge on my truck for 46K of the 47K miles on my truck, I knew I was going to be my own warranty company as soon as I added the programmer. I can live with that perfectly fine, and if I blew my engine up next week I wouldn’t be up set at anyone but myself.

Here we go with this no sympathy for you bull again. Every time someone posts a problem & a dealer in the same sentence anymore, one of you goody two shoes has got to chime in with this crap. The post says he was having the head studded & a aftermarket gasket installed... obviously the warranty isn't going to cover that. And if the "parts replacer" at the dealer was not able to do the job correctly & without further damage then that's their problem to make right. As for a rental, I've never seen a warranty that covered that, & loaners are generally a good will jester at the dealers discretion. I just don't understand why he took it to a dealer to have this work done in the first place.

I know of more than one 6. 0 that pukes coolant and they've never been chipped. It's a 6. 0 thing, not a "screw the dealer/Ford" thing.

The service manager said that they've done head gaskets on almost all the 6. 0L's that they have sold, I cant think that its a chip problem, More like a 6. 0L problem. He took the truck in because it was losing coolant. They didnt say anything about the programmer so neither did he.

I have no doubt that they can tell it's been chipped, but its their choice to refuse warranty, He's not trying to screw ford over.

Best of luck to him, Liberty, I hope they get it straight for him. They really do seam to be quick trucks when they run!

Has your dad had any thoughts about a Dodge/Cummins now?

So they pulled it apart again, dealer say's that two of the lifters stayed pumped up, two push rods and two valves got bent, the bent valves wrecked the head. So they are intalling a new head and gasket, valves and push rods. Sure looks funny with the cab up in the air like that...

i have a friend as a diesel tech in WA state. A truck came in with all the symptoms of cracked injectors including a crank case full of #2. He starts digging into it and finds a Bully dog wired in. He said that #4 injector looked like tempered glass and #3 was so bad it was spraying into the valve colver.

Dealer warrenteed the repair and gave the box back to the owner.

Hmmm... . this reminds me of a scripture - Proverbs 26:16

"The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason. "

or via Holman Christian Standard translation -

"In his own eyes, a slacker is wiser than seven men who can answer sensibly. "

But I guess we won't go there :-laf

I've always been a fan of the New American Standard which reads, "The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than 7 men who can GIVE A DISCREET ANSWER. "

Different versions seem to give a different meaning.

I really have no idea what this has to do with the price of tea in China.

IF nothing else of a positive nature comes from this thread, at least remember this - Ford took LOTS better care of their customer than DC often does theirs - and even a FREE loaner yet! ;) :p

I'm not too sure about that!

yeah sure... The many times my girlfriend has sent her '05 F350 back to the dealer she has had to demand some type of rental. Usually the dealer rents her another truck then she mails the bill to Ford and Ford denies it, then she has her lawyer send the bill to Ford, then Ford pays the bill.

She's still trying to get the truck bought back. But Ford keeps putting bandaids on the truck to keep it going. (oh, and she doesn't even know what aftermarket performance enhancers are!)

Edit: Oh, and here's the latest on her problems with that truck:

Problem - truck sticks in gears and has trouble shifting at times (automatic).

Solution - Replace cat.

His truck would not be just fine without the programmer. Ford 6. 0 is a headgasket blowing machine. I know plenty of guys with bone stock 6. 0's that have had headgaskets replaced. It is a faulty design by ford/international, anyone with a 6. 0 should get headgaskets replaced for life or have Ford buy the truck back. Bad engineering on their part should not be the owners problem.

WELL, he finally got the truck back on the road, he says its finally running great, and with the aftermarket studs and gasket hopefully he wont have anymore problems with that. Problems are inevitable because, well... but hes happy to have it back. The dealer treated him very well even though the mechanic had a few problems, i think the dealer probably swallowed the cost of the rental. He didn't get stuck with the bill anyway.

Is your dad happy with his Ferd now? If he has anymore problems with it, have him consider a DodgeCummins.
