After taking a long trip in my truck and then letting it sit for a week or so, i am experiencing a shuddering sensation in the drivetrain accelerating from standstill... the problem does not seem to occur around corners so much as it does leaving an slightly uphill parked position in 2nd gear. It is not noticable in low gear... . i changed out my rear diff fluid this winter and added 8 oz. of the addititive, should I add more or is this an indication of an imminent clutch problem... . since i've owned the truck i've always kept the getrag overfilled with synthetic but the 2nd-3rd shifting has always been a little chunky... . thanx to all... .

U-joints and driveline would be my first checks. Then make sure your yokes are tight. Seems like the book calls for something un-godly like 350ft-lbs on te transmission. Not sure on the diff, but it is up there as well. After that, the rear end (bearings and backlash), then the transmission. Bearings could be worn in either one, and causing grief.

Sounds like could be clutch chatter. My old stock clutch worked fine but chattered on 2nd gear take offs. Only fault I could see was loose center hub an springs on disc. Hot spots on flywheel may also cause problem. Do a search, I think others have had this problem.

I did crawl underneath and give the driveshaft a quick shake and it was tight enough, I actually replaced my rear shaft u-joints this summer... . however, lately I have been experiencing a 4wd vibration that I have chalked up to maybe a transfer case bearing, has anybody had this sort of experience?

I've opened up "tight" u-joints to find absolutely NO grease in them. If you dont have a grease fitting (and grease it now and then), it's only a matter of time... ...

I'm sort of a greas-aholic... . every time i crawl underneath i usually pump about a half tube into the baby... .

Just remember that over grease isn't always a good thing. You don't want to compromise the seal, and you need room for heat dissapation.

And you never want to mix grease types unless you know what your dioing or you have no choice. Some greases are not compatible and make muck.
