Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Strange oil consumption problem

Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Why is my mpg so bad?

engine shuts off when accelerating under W O T. I can gently speed up and no problem , but as soon as I go pedal to the metal it shuts down , can start it up right away and continue until W O T nd it repeats. never does this when cold always when driving and shut down for awhile then try
driving. and as long as I stay off the throttle it runs fine. Update: cleaned battery terms, and would not keep running, tried replacement solenoid, not installed and it worked fine. plugged in old solenoid and started. also I was wrong about running when hot, it does it when cold. I realized that I never get on it when cold, also when accelerating slowly it never shuts off. I believe that this is a electrical issue or possible starter relay.

That doesn't really sound like a solenoid problem but I guess you could zip tie it up to test it. What is your fuel pressure?

Thanks I will check it out, been having trans problems. shudder at 42 mph in lockup, goes away when applying throttle or out of lockup.

When is the last time you changed fuel filter?
Also I suggest you do fuel pressure test. 20 psi min. at idle, should rise as you increase rpm.

Because this is happening only when hot & WOT, it could be one or more of your plungers & barrels in inj pump sticking. With your high miles it’s likely rebuild time. But as GrantP said, check both before anything.

Could be your overflow valve. I that little metal ball get stuck in the passage way between the p7100 injector pump. If there is to much pressure in the P7100 it will shut down ( this what my mechanic told me and this what a certified bosc tech told him.

Mine did this several years ago and all I did was started the engine and it kept on stalling out. He told the ball got stuck in the passage. He got unstuck but i decided put a new overflow valve on, it came with a new metal ball. When I got to the shop after I picked up the new valve, the engine was back to starting and stalling out. The ball was stuck in the opening of the passage again. New valve solved the problem.

When your taking it easy on the pedal the pressure in p7100 mite marginal but when you push down on the go pedal the p7100 mite be building up to much pressure.

Get the engine warmed up to OT and secure a large bag of ice on the injection pump and take it for a drive. If the problem does not reoccur, then it is the IP.
