Shutdown "Chirp"

I have a 2001 automatic. Whenever i shut it down right before the engine stops you hear a loud "Chirp", thats the best way to describe it. Sounds sort of like metal rubbing. I have 12k miles on it and his done this from the day i got it. Does anybody elses truck make this noise?.

yes , mine don't do it all the time , its the fan belt coming to a screeching halt .

It's the serpentine belt chirping when the engine stops quicker than the belt. Should be no problem.

WHEN I HAD MY 98, 12 VALVE I CHIRPED, WITH NO PROBLEMS FOR ALMOST 100,000 MILES, ALTHOUGH I HAVE 3,000 ON MY 2001 AND I HAVE NOT NOTICED THE SOUND YET.

I was told at a campgrond the goodyear gator-back belt will stop teh chirp. I can't say for sure just passing on what I was told.

My truck did that until I figured out that it only chirped with the A/C on. Now I turn the A/C off before shutdown and I've never had another chirp.

Mine did it with or without AC on. Changed to the Gatorback back, no more chirp #ad

The "99" auto did the chirping thing periodically, mostly when it was warm. With almost 5000 miles on the "01" I only heard it chirp once.

Go for the Gatorback Belt, it eliminates the squeak completely. The part number is #4080810 8PK2055 (That's for a truck with A/C).

I too suffer from the dreaded "Chirp". Started at about 4,000 miles. Brought it to the dealer and he said it was from the fuel pump #ad
and that he has tried to get rid of it in another truck to no avail. He did say it wasn't detrimental to the truck.
I'm leaning towards your explanations as the actual problem. Either way I know its not harmful just annoying. #ad


Question: Who makes the gatorback? I think it's Gates but I'm not sure. #ad

I think, for the most part, that it is ONLY The Automatic Cummins' That chirp.
With a few rare exceptions for manual trannies.

my 98. 5 5-speed hasn't ever chirped.
