I go to the same place each morning to drink coffee and shoot the breeze with a friendly group of people. There is one guy, originally from Michigan, who thinks he if the oracle of all things auto/truck/manufacturing related. I usually just let him run his mouth and walk away. Lately, though, his favorite hobby has been to needle me about my junky Dodge. I even laughed that off. Then he professes to having inside information that the 6. 4 Powerstroke is not from Navistar, and he has a relative who is some sort of muckity-muck at Allison who tells him how great the 1000 series is, and that it is the same unit you see in trash trucks and heavy duty applications. Today I couldn't hold back and told him he was full of shyt and his inside sources were too. He stormed out in a huff, calling me an azzhole. :-{} Go figure:-laf

I know, I hear your frustration. I too have had to deal with a lot die hard furd jerks. Don't put up with it, throw it back at that sob. Tell him the proof is in the pudding. How many time are those powerjokes in the shop compare to Cummins.

Did he bring up that ford does in fact own Cummins (or Cummings) yet?

Not directly, but he keeps telling me that Ford runs Cummins engines, and I keep telling him only in the heavier applications where the Navijunk Powerdork can't cut the mustard, where Cat also becomes an option. I couldn't quite figure out if he was trying to insinuate that the 6. 4 PS is actually built by Cummins.

My "soon to be" sister-in law is the same way. She will not stop w/her 411 on everything this planet has to offer and more.

I work with a guy of retirement age who is looking to buy the new Ford to tow a 5th wheel. He reported the day after his test drive, that the salesmen informed him the new engine has so much power that they have to operate in a de-fuel mode. Seems the flame from the tail pipe is wrecking the paint on vehicles parked to the right rear corner of the truck when at a stop light. In one case the exhaust flame melted a Saturn.

This clown is not a Ford proponent, though I think he is a GM guy at heart. He just HAS to feel that he knows everything about everything, and it is always through these "inside sources" that filter the secret information to him. It must mean that Wickenburg, Arizona is the center of the automotive universe. Heck, I think horses outnumber people 2:1 here!!

My sister insisted that Ford owned "cummings" and they were going to be in the 08 trucks (this was about 2 years ago). I went staight to "her" computer and pulled up the Cummins website to the FAQ and there it plainly stated - "Ford does not own Cummins". "Well thats what the salesman told me!" was her excuse.

Somtimes you have to "consider the source"

There is no defense against ignorance

TF - The Alison 1000 series trans are only rated to 19,500 lbs GVW. See link below and click on each of the series transmissions to see its ratings:

Pupil Transport/Shuttle Series: School/Shuttle Bus: Commercial Transmission Applications: Products: Allison Transmission

I believe they are a good trans as engineered for the GM trucks. I recall reading as others have stated that they defuel for self protection some of the gears.

Also why has GM sold Alison if they are so great? See link:

GM Agrees to Sell Allison Transmission to The Carlyle Group and Onex: June 2007: News at Allison: Allison Transmission

Oh well, I've run into many individuals like this. I usually let them go until they run out of rope and hang themselves.

Thanks, I had visited the Allison site. I found a PDF brochure with a chart showing ratings and capacities for all the models, but there was not a printer friendly version. One thing I did learn was the 2000 series is closely related to the 1000 series, and shows GVWs up to 33,000 lbs. That is still only medium duty.

I had a Chevy with the 8. 1/Ally before my CTD. Unfortunately within 1200 miles it developed a problem that GM could/would not fix, so I dug in my heels and went Lemon Law. Quite an ordeal, but I beat 'em. I have a friend in the refuse business who has a substantial fleet of Allison equipped packers and recyclers, and he says the electronic controlled units are much more troublesome than the older units were. Despite that, they really are THE name in the HD Automatic business. I think GM sold them off only to raise cash. It also doesn't help that the heavy truck business tends to be a boom or bust proposition.

As for the length of rope, he must have a heck of a long reel of it, 'cause I've been patiently waiting for him to get to the end, like Saddam. I guess I ran out before he did. ;)

I had a furd salesman tell me that too. I told him furd doesn't own Cummins, He said, well they own stock in Cummins. I told him Furd doesn't own five cents worth of Cummins stock. I was only there with my brother-in-law, who had to take his 2000 furd truck in for major work and I gave him a ride home. I went straight to the General Managers office, I told him what had happened. He was very nice and polite and said that he would talk to that salesman and to all their sale staff to inform them that furd does not own any part of Cummins.

just saw one of those new 6. 4's on the dyno (305 rwh) It put me to sleep.

about 30 trucks and cars there. only trucks to make it over 500 rwh---all cummins

Putting up with the know-it-alls is a pain but if they are not your BOSS be grateful. The supervisor I had to put up with the last 7 years I worked was the most miserable excuse for a human being I had ever seen in my entire life and that included my 5 years of Regular USAF. He was so bad I retired at 62 instead of 65 just to get away from him. The clinical term would no doubt be Egomaniac. He may have thought he could walk on water. I always wished he would try.

this morning I found out (emphatically) that the new Cummins is a V-8, all of you 6. 7 guys must be surprised, the guy who told me this owns an 05, by the way, I pulled up some stuff on the TDR and proved him wrong, he took it pretty well, his friend had a civic and kept challenging us to race . . . but that is a whole other story

The one I always get a kick out of is, the people that ask "What chip you got in that?" I come back with "It's a 1995 no chip, it's all mechanical. " They then come back with you can get get a chip that will give you 100+hp. " I then say "Look, it has no computer, it only has a PCM, you can't put a chip in a mechanical engine. " Then they say "I have a friend that has a 1996 that he put a chip in and now has 600hp. " I say "BS, he has the same pump I have and you can not put a chip on that pick-up" Then I ask them if they want to see under the hood, so I open the hood and say "dose his look like this?" and show them the cable to the throttle and say "This engine is not a fly be wire. " They then walk away with a very puzzled look on their face, and I win again.

Navijunk Powerdork

Challenge him to race? Loser buys a beer.

This is funny it reminded me of one of those know it all's in my like. It was also a boss of mine but other than that trait he was a great boss. Anyway one day we added up all the years of the trades that he worked in and did this and that and told him you really look good for a 125 year old man:-laf

I have a neighbor that has used the "flame from the tailpipe" story on my. I just laugh at people like that... . :-laf

Pretty much everyone from my wifes side of the family is the "Yoda of all that matters" even though they themselves are so "effed up" in every facet of their lives. Theyre their own village full of village idoits. :-laf

Theyre quite a bunch. Glad my wife aint very much like them... . :D
