what does it take to be a moderator?

In my signature you will find various links I have put there over time to help others locate projects I have done.

I found that just listing it without it being linked caused a flood of pm's I had to answer over and over so the links helped a bunch with that.

So now a new borderline question...

In a joint effort with another company, I developed a product I use on my own truck and wanted to know if putting the name of the product in my signature is a no-no?

At the moment I don't have plans to sell it retail and thought I should post what it is I am affiliated with.

I did read the signature requirements but wasn't totally clear on drawing the line on solicitation. Can I put in my signature- GateAssisted Tailgate?

That's right on the edge and IMO it's slightly over it. I talked with Robin about it and she agreed. She does publish press releases on the front page however and you may contact her on that.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the info, I just wasn't clear on this:

Vendor Note: Each active vendor/commercial subscriber (account) should have his or her business name incorporated into his or her signature block. It will also be added, by a TDR Staff Member, just below your username. You are encouraged to include your business telephone number. And you may add a link to your website by clicking on your business name.

Does the above mean there are different subscriptions or are you considered a vendor once you have something to sell?

You are considered a vendor if you are affiliated with a commercial enterprise - an employee, owner, contractor, etc. Putting a business name there (which is actually required) is different than putting a product there.

Good Question

Matt, if you installed one on your truck and you like it, and you are in no way affiliated with a company selling it, you can include it. If you are a dealer/distributor, we would treat it as marketing and ask that it be removed.

Does this help?

Does this help?

Sort of... I think I get it. I know what you are talking about with that part but whats happened here is that since joining, I never was a vendor, just a member.

Back in Jan I started working on a product for myself that blossomed locally as others started asking me for one on their truck. It caused the project to go into overdrive with the end result being a custom made product that I now sell.

So according to Steve I should include in my sig the company name with a link to my web site- since I sell something that makes me a vendor. However its not permitted to put the product in my sig which I can understand the way I posted above. . too much like advertising.

Where I started scratching my head with my sig was with the company name because I had in place to call it all the same thing. The web site for it is www.GateAssist.com and the product is GateAssist.

I was hoping I could put in my sig ether one or the other but I see thats been blocked leaving me with having to come up with a different name. Allot was put in place with domain name, trade marks etc.

Actually my hopes are to move it wholesale and by putting it in my sig TDR members might find there way to distributors.

If that doesn't happen then I may do retail but its not my objective.

Matt, I'm sorry you can't put it in your signature until it includes one for a first gen. Then and only then can they ban it :-laf
Hrmm, well thats actually a possibility. I didn't know the

1st gens were very heavy tailgates.

A formula was developed to get the assist right in the sweet spot for various tailgate weights. If anyone whats to step on the scales for a wakeup call:-laf

and then step on them again holding a 1st gen tailgate all I would need is the difference in weight to plug into the formula :)
