Silencer Ring Purpose

What's the purpose of the silencer ring anyway? Will removing it not do ANYTHING to the "integrity" of the beast besides something good for it? Surely it's there for a reason. Just trying to justify removing it when my baby gets here.
Also - anybody got input on those rhino floor liners - I had some of "the best" (not rhinos) in may last truck, and they crapped out on me after about 2 years.

There has been a plethora (big word for the day) of info on the silencer ring. No is doesn't serve any purpose other than to quite the wistle down. No performance gain or loss with the ring. Although there are a few folks on one thread that claim there truck didn't perform as well with the ring removed. The big rigs don't have them I guess the ring was Dodges idea to quite down the truck.

Not sure what the "Rhino" floor liner is but if you looking for a great floor mat check out www.foxweatherboots.com These are, hands down, the best floormats I've ever owned.
