I agree with Scheibins, the silencer ring is just that, Dodge's noise emissions control. However, does it sound cool to take it out, would I take mine out again, do I like to listen to the turbo sing? Yes, yes and yes :)

aerodynamically, i believe it might be better with it in, because it helps "funnel" the air to the intake area of the turbo, however i have been running mine without for over 4000 miles and it has not effected my power level either way.

i do enjoy the increased turbo music also. - it will not go back in.

What's a silencer ring? Definitlly not what you give your bride on the alter :-laf I lost mine (silencer ring) at about 80K presently 135K not to worry all will be fine. Enjoy the tunes.

The ring is on the front of the turbo (intake side) and the best way i can describe it is a large bevald washer. There is a snap ring holding it in. To remove take the intake hose off the front of turbo, take one or two small screw drivers and work the ring out, then the silencer ring will come right out. Next you put the intake hose back on and you are done. Oo.

i had mine out and it didnt seem to make a difference in "whistle". i do have a stock air cleaner, does that make the difference?

Yes. Aftermarket air filters (afe, BHAF etc) let your engine breath and sound better ;). The factory air box really hides the music!

wow, you are right. what a difference. i put in a high flow air filter and my truck woke up. and makes more "music".

Noise

With the AFE air filter installed my rig is a "little" too noisey for city driving. Running down the interstate though it seems OK. With the silencer ring out... . well... I don't know. It might just be annoying. I'll have to give it a try.

It sounds cool, but it gets a bit old after your towing things up long grades. Mine was loud enough to split everyones head after a minute. We used to use ear plugs, I finally put the ring back in.

I took my silencer ring out for all of one day. It was just noisier, not better. I wouldn't mind the volume increase if the tone was deeper, but louder high-pitched whine was no improvement for me. It surprises me that this little piece of metal actually makes a sound difference.
