What, if any, are the benefits of removing the silencer ring on the HX35? Is it that lock-ring looking piece in front of the impeller? Thanx for the help.

Yes, it is the piece held in place with the snap ring. Removing it will add a lot of turbo noise. A good thing in my book. Myself and a few others have noticed a slight bit of added turbo lag after removing the ring though.

I was not aware of any turbo lag from removing the S/R, could this be a result of not having the slight (if any) ram effect it produces to the incoming charge?

Don't forget the most important advantage to losing it: Weight Savings :-laf

Turbo Lag?

I think the people that are assuming more turbo lag after removing the silencer ring are confusing this with the added whistle earlier in acceleration.

Removing the ring does give the false impression that the turbo is taking longer to spool up but in reality, we are so used to not hearing any noise in low-boost that people automatically assume that they are experiencing more lag. The whistle is slow during low-boost acceleration but it's not because of turbo lag. You won't lose anything off acceleration.

Does this make sense to anyone? Kind of hard to explain.

One tip - get a set of "snap-ring" pliers if you don't already have a set. It will make the removal go a lot easier. I tried to use a couple of hooks and a screwdriver as many people recommend and I nearly beat my turbo to death by the time I was finished.

Dodgeram.org has an article on the silencer ring also.

difference?

Hey! Might be too many times on the shooting range with no hearing protection to blame but I can't hear any difference with turbo ring out. Truck has 4" Magnaflow and BHAF. As far as sound goes the exaust is plenty for me but I had read so many times about the tubo "holler'en" with the ring out, I just thought I'd hear it for myself. You all feel free to chime in with any concerns or ideas. Got a price of 300$ for a fuel pressure gauge installed inside the cab, they use Pricol [spell]? what do you'all think about that price? It'll be my first gauge;only thing I'll do for extra punch is the Catcher ECM so along with the ATS stage 4 and extra cap. pan I should be alright; or? Thanks for a great site,. . Mike

your ears are messed up if you can't hear any difference with a BHAF in place...

I put my silencer ring back in as an experament, and I couldn't hear the turbo at all!! without it, it's LOUD!!!

I popped mine out and liked the sound. I put in a 4" exhaust with a Diamond muffler, installed backwards, and LOVE the sound! I look for sound walls and roll down the passenger's window. :D Can't wait for the next upgrades!

fuel guage

CMB..... that doesn't sound too out of price range... ... . here is a link to a retailer if you want to look at them and their prices. I have the 0-30psi. DIPricol in mine. I love it, looks great at night. I have a 0-100psi autometer electric sitting here under the desk..... wanted something with a little smaller range on it. Hope this helps. :):)

CMB, $300. for one gauge. . Save some money and try to hook up with a local TDR chapter and install a fuel pressure, boost and EGT at a BOMB party. Also, tell us about your truck in your signature. It will help with answering any questions you have. Good luck, Marty
