Hi Guys, I removed my silencer ring a few months ago--don't hear any difference, even wot pulling a trailer! I sure am envious as I pass all the 18 wheelers and hear their turbo singing. I thought from reading everyone elses results that there would be an audible difference--0what's up with this?

thanks,

David

yup forrest is right on. I got straight pipe, no ring, and the BHAF, and it sings and chirps like the best of them. Won't be as loud as the turbos on the big rigs, but it'll make you smile, especially when pulling up beside a duracrap

if you want it as loud as the big rigs, put a UNI or K&N on it!

I replaced my BHAF w/ a K&N the other day as an experament... my LORD is it loud... I dare say it's TOO loud for long trips!

Thanks guys, I already have K&N but am thinking of going back to paper filter after I have read in roundtable that K&N lets more dirt through along with better air flow.

I have had my K&N on for about 10,000 miles. My belief about the whole thing about K&N's letting stuff through is that perhaps the filter was not cleaned as often as it was supposed to. When I got the firerings done, they looked at my pistons and there was no sign of any "sandblasting effect" that I have heard about. I asked the mechanic who was working on my truck and he has had one for 50,000 miles on his truck and when he had his torn down he also didnt see any adverse effects. They need to be cleaned and oiled properly to perform correctly. I also believe that the area where you live may have an effect, such as dry and dusty. Just my opinion, not looking to start trouble.

On the other hand, I have had a fleetguard BHAF on also and the K&N is much louder, like others say maybe to loud sometimes on long trips. However a good radio can help this.

FWIW-

On my truck, anyways, the turbo is louder w/ a BHAF. Had a K&N drop-in before.

Not all the filters that let dirt through, let it through the element itself. Mine was leaking past the seal, even with grease. The gap on the box was to much. It also depends on how much dirt you run in. I'm around alot of it, so it had to go. My EGTs are about 50* lower with the BHAF, even without a heat shield.

forrest, I'm now thinking about putting in a k&n conical in place of my BHAF. Could you please give me the part number off of your filter? I'm not one for buying factory made kits :) Thanks

yea, i had the stock air filter set up on mine and no ring it didnt make a big difference till i got a K&N and cut the sides out of my air box and now it screams. .

Is the UNI cleanable with the k&n kit or would I have to buy their stuff?

Seems to be quite a bit cheaper than a bug k&n cone.
