Just did mine this weekend on my 2003. Piece of cake. I took all of the air hoses off between the turbo and the air filter box. On mine however, and it may just have been the position of the ring in front of the silencer, took a wider blade (1/4") to get the started to remove. Once I figured that out, it went smooth. There was a thread going last week where I asked for the instructions from Holset. Nobody had them but I got a lot of info on the removal. One of the responses involved an individual who took his off, thought it too loud and replaced it. Another response felt that the turbo was slower to respond because of the ring removal. As far as it being too loud. I don't think it is. You hear it at about 3 pounds of boost as opposed to to about 12. To me it is a beautiful sound up through 20 pounds of boost but it never gets unruly or so loud that it overpowers engine noise or heaven forbid, the radio! As for the slower response. Can't tell the least bit of difference. As I wrote in the other thread, I think because you hear it as a lower tone whistle at 3 pounds and build to the high pitch we are used to hearing with the silencer that it may create the aural illusion of a slow responding turbo. The turbo is still driven by exhaust whether the silencer is there or not. Pull it out and enjoy it!!!
