2 min drill

OK this is what I did.

1. Disconect the big black hose that runs from the air box to the turbo.

2. Look into the turbo and you will see a big silver washer that sits in the inlet of the turbo.

3. Take two thin flat blad screwdrivers and gently remove the snapring holding the big washer looking thing inplace in the turbo.

4. Remove and discard the washer looking thing [silencer ring]

5. Replace big black hose and be sure to tighten the hose clamps.

Now you will hear that Cummin hummin!!!!

:) All advise only worth what you paid for it.  :D

Mine fell out:D now it sounds much better. AfterI put in a Ted Jannety air cleaner system it sounds even better, they should call it the JET CLEANER:p

Silencer ring suggestions

2 suggestions:

1) Be careful removing the snap ring - you may want to replace it.

2) Wipe out any metal shavings made from your efforts to remove snap ring.

I love the turbo whistle when I shift gears - I even leave the rear slider open so I can hear it better, but I'm thinking of replacing my silencer ring. With stock engine/intake the high pitch whine is too much, especially when towing even a 5000 lb trailer. But then again dog whistles can bother me - it's a matter of opinion. For more opinions you can do a search on silencer ring if you haven't already.

Its only there to quite the turbo thanks to one of our great Dodge engineers. I noticed no difference when I took mine out just more whine.

silencer ring a.w.o.l.

No difference in h. p. or performance. It just makes my truck sound more like a conv. Pete or K. W. with external air filters:) :D . Doug

P. S. Can't wait till I get my stacks on this weekend.

I had mine out for a week until I hooked up the trailer to go to colorado. Made it about five miles and put it back in at a rest stop. If you are going to be driving while under load for a long time (ie: towing), leave it in, or you will go deaf!

Mine been out for over two years now. I do not tow much but when I do you don't need to look at the boost gauge to tell the turbos a workin.

I do wonder if this condition would contribute to any hearing loss. I know that the CG patrol boat I used to drive had dualing cummins 903 turbo (V-8's), and the turbo's did slightly damage the hearing in my left ear. (After three years of abuse, and there was less noise sheilding on this baot than our trucks).

But none the less, no plans to re install mine :)
