silencer ring?

I see alot of guys here remove the silencer ring. Does this improve preformance? What benefits to you get by removing this ring? Is it some thing you can easily remove and reinstall? Any info on this would be helpful.

It is a ring just inside the turbo. You can see it if you pull off the rubber tube to the air box. It is held in with a snap ring. And can be easly taken in and out. There is no power gain just a louder turbo whine.

JJ, this will cause more smiles per hour for sure. The only downfall is once the Silencer Ring get loose in your garage, they like to steal mufflers:-laf :-laf !!!!!
