Well this is my first post, and wanted to tell you all how adicting it is just reading about your smoke. Time to start making some of my own. #ad

Got a 97 2500 4x4 used with 55K on it. At 60K had complete service done with valve adjust. Had a K&N installed. Since then I have been reading posts with people talking about oil and/or stuff on the turbo blades. Took off the tube from the airbox to the turbo housing and checked. Nice and clean. Then I started looking for the silencer ring. Thought this is where it was. Did not see anything that looked like it could be removed.

So... . What and I looking for again?

Let the BOMBing begin.

You were in the right spot,I kinda overlooked it the first time too. Just around the outside of the turbo vanes (looking in with intake hose removed) is a metal ring or shield with a little clip around the outside. Pry the clip towards the centre, and work it out,and the silencer ring will just slide straight out.

Removing the ring will do nothing for your rig's performance,it will only make an obnoxious high pitched squeal. In my opinion leave it in unless you like these types of noises.

HEMI,

Cool pics. Mine is still in there.

illflem,

Yeah, I was going to leave it in there. Just wanted to learn more about my truck. Wanted to be able to look in there and identify what it is people are talking about.

That's what the radio is for. #ad
I have mine out and if I have the radio on, not even loud, you can't even really hear it. Can't be too bad, my wife hasn't complained yet. #ad

Hogan, why take it out if you have to block the sound with your radio?I like the sound of my Cummins and would rather listen to it than music sometimes,it's just the high pitched part I can do without.

Hey man, this ring, what does it sound like without it?
I can hear the turbo at the tailpipe now. Whistling.
Can't hear that whistling at the engine. Would my
ring still be in or not? It's been this way since I got
it last year. I can't really hear this whistling too
well, but my wife and kids can, I think this has something
to do with the whistling in my ears I hear right now #ad

Gonna leave it in if still there, was just wondering what it
sounds like...
thanks

I don't mind the whine, I like it. What I'm saying is that it's not so loud that you always have to hear it. It's never bothered me or my wife and unless I'm hard on the pedal, the boost is low and you can't hear it anyway. #ad
