I'd like to be able to crank the stereo with the doors open when I'm parked, on occassion. I read in the owner's manual how to keep the doors open without having the overhead lights on, but I can't find out how to turn off the annoying "Ding, Ding, Ding"... I don't wanna do anything that's not reversable... Just wanna unplug that darn thing. Can you guys point me in the right direction how to find it & disconnect it ? Thanks !

:) Mike-I made some little flaps that I screwed in to the cab just above where the little buttons are that shut off the light and chime when the door is shut. Just push the button in and swing the little tab over it so the button stays in and you are good to go. When done listenting to the tunes just swing them outa the way and you are back to normal.

i just engage the clamps on the door with a pen... then when im done i just pull the door handle :) Just make sure u remember to pull the handle befor u slam your door lol

I tried several things. First I tried the cutting the "key in" wire in the steering column like you could do on the older trucks. That didn't work. I then took apart the key "barrel" and removed the little switch that make contact for "key in". It solved the problem of the dinger for the key in. (I can open the door now and no dinger with the key in). But with the key in and moved to the Axillary position, the computer figures (correctly) an key must be in and the dinger chimes anyway, so no radio with the doors open. I gave up and just put a spdt switch to the radio from the unswitch cigarette lighter. With the switch in one position, the radio turns on with the ignition as usual. And in the other position the radio turns on, key off. It works.

I got some hot glue and with the gun filled in the speaker hole. on my 2nd gen the speaker was attatched to a circuit board.

It is so quite I almost can't hear it. before I could hear it 2 houses down.

Door latch idea great !!

I did the door latch method yesterday and it works great. Just take a screw driver, pen, corn dog stick, screw, nail, leatherman -ETC, ETC and swing it thru the door latch mechanisim till she latches and PRESTO:-laf the dinger quits. Just rember to pull on the door latch to trigger it open before you try to shut the door or :eek:KA-Bango she don't close! I still would like to find that pesky little dinger and fill it with hot glue or silicone but I spent about 2 hours pulling the dash apart and still could not locate that little P. O. S. !

Has anyone figured this one out yet? How to deactivate the chime? I know the stick or screwdriver in the door works, but I don't want to have to do that every time as I work out of my truck and work with the door open listening to the radio many times a day.

On my F-250 company truck I was able to have the dealer deprogram the chime as well as the seat belt chime.

Thanks
