Simple Green

Have seen guys mention that they use Simple Green to clean their engines off and was wondering were I might be able to pick some of this up. I have been noticing a wet spot around and under my lift pump and would like to get that area cleaned up so I can maybe find out if it's oil or fuel leaking out from around the lift pump area.

What areas do you need to cover in the engine compartment (so they don't get wet) ?

Wal Mart carries it. Most people that have RVees swear by it. Cleans rubber roofs and aluminum or fiberglass sides.

I buy it by the gallon at those SAM's Discount stores. I would assume Wallmart carries it as well since Wallmart owns SAMS and distributes many of the same products.

I know this may not be smart, but since I have never had problems, I will continue to do it... WHat I do is spray EVRYTHING in the engine conpartment, except for my Scotty Air. Everything in the engine compartment should be waterproof, but be careful. Don't hit the elctronics with a powerful jet of water. Just use a gentle spray. High pressure is not needed, as the Simple Green does all the work for you! #ad
Also, Simple Green works great in the wheel wells and on the undercarraiage. #ad

One thing to consider when spraying the cleaner on the engine:

Be careful not to spray the accessory drive belt with cleaner. The cleaner may be a cause for premature "wear" or glazing of the back side of the belt. It was possibly the cause of my belt squeaking on the tensioner pully which contacts the back (flat portion) of the belt. I had to replace the MOPAR belt after about 20K miles because of a bad squeak exacerbated by wet conditions.

Problem solved, but I no longer allow cleaner to contact the belt.

Home Depot carries it by the gallon and it is about $7 not bad at all, I use it for a lot of things also, I need to do my engine next.

Flatlander,

After you clean the area around the lift pump, there is a weep hole on the side of the pump towards the
radiator. Its just a hole drilled into the side of the body of the pump. If fuel is leaking out of there, you need a new pump. A lot of us 12 valvers has had this happen.

It should be covered under the 100K mile engine warranty
