I just had a shop in Angleton, Tx (south of Houston) finish installing a set of Bosch 0432 131 753 injectors and a 4" Flow Pro exhaust. Both were recommended by the owner for entry level power gains on my almost stock '97 CTD. I was skeptical but decided to take his advice. Two days later, We took a 500 mi. trip. The first time I pulled out to pass, I thought Aliens had possessed my truck. My wife was also startled and commented that "this thing is almost like my car" Her car is a '96 Caprice with the P code LT1 cop package. On the return trip, I was pulling a 6x12 cargo trailer--about 2500 lbs-- never came out of OD, easily held 65 mph on some decent grades, quickly pulled 80 mph once while passing on a 2 lane, and out of the corner of my eye, saw 32 lbs of boost. For a lot of you guys, this is pretty tame stuff, but I bought this truck new over 10 yrs ago, and it has always been doggy above 60 mph and I just expected to live with it. It is stone reliable, gets excellent mileage, and will move anything I hook it to. Now I can "feel the steel" once in a while. Hope I don't break anything expensive.
These are subjective impressions, no measured proof, but to move a heavy vehicle this quickly, it has to be 250 or so at the rear wheels. A nice increase from 180 flywheel hp. No idea what the torque is doing.
EGT's are up an average of 100*, fuel economy may be down 1 mpg or less, it takes a 1/2 turn to start, and lopes a few seconds when it is cold. below 45 mph it doesn't seem much different, but I haven't firewalled it yet. If it's smoking, it isn't enough to be obvious. Mileage was 20 mpg unloaded on the first tank, and 14 pulling the little trailer. Not enough miles to be conclusive, but not bad.
In my signature, the major mods before these were the air cleaner and the boost elbow. The pump didn't have to be touched.
There are some good shops in Houston, but I like this one; Tanner Auto Works--- it reminds me of the old Harley shops --- no Italian marble--- and Gerald is a Dodge guy.
