Symptoms: 98 12v: A couple of weekends ago I was pulling a trailer full of metal roof over the mountains. I had no problems go and coming half way back over substantial mountains. Then, about 2/3s wary home on one puny incline I noticed a loss of power even with full throttle. Following that I had to third gear up over the "big hill". Seemed to do okay on the flats.
Therefore, I thought it was high time to replace the fuel filter, delete the prefilter heater, and replace the return and fuel line with the LarryBs marine grade tubing. Everything is going okay until the fuel line change. When I unhook the 5/16 line, the top line on the frame, and hopefully wait for the fuel to stop running it keeps on coming. I filled up a quart container before I decided to come in and ask folks if there was a step I am missing to stop the flow of fuel from the tank??? The tank is about 2/3 full. The truck has a slight incline toward the front. Is there a tank pressure or syphon action going on?
Also, am I correct in assuming that the two small torx machine screws that hold the heater sensor on the prefilter do not have to be reinstalled to prevent a air leak?
PS: yep, I did several forum searches to no avail, before asking.
Thanks,
